Books International (BI) is pleased to announce its membership in Carbon Balanced Paper (CBP), a program administered by Sustainable Paper Group in association with global conservation charity World Land Trust. A paper becomes “carbon balanced” when the average emissions associated with its production are offset by World Land Trust conservation efforts.
CBP follows the principles of REDD+ (Reduced Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation), now recognized as one of the most effective and fastest ways to stop the rise in atmospheric CO2 and global warming effects. According to the UN, the following five REDD+ activities contribute to carbon mitigation actions in forests and have been globally agreed to:
- reducing emissions from deforestation
- reducing emissions from forest degradation
- conservation of forest-carbon stocks
- enhancement of forest-carbon stocks
- sustainable management of forests
Not only does CBP help reduce carbon impact, but it also helps protect endangered species by supporting World Land Trust projects in Vietnam—one of the most biologically diverse countries on Earth.
