Littleton, CO (June 24, 2026)— William Carey Publishing is proud to announce that one of its latest titles has received the American Society of Missiology’s 2026 Book Award for Excellence in Missiology. Larry W. Caldwell’s The Bible in Culture: Reading the Bible with All the World Using Ethnohermeneutics was awarded the honor at the society’s annual meeting, held June 19–21, 2026, in Notre Dame, IN.
The American Society of Missiology (ASM) is an ecumenical professional association representing more than 600 scholars, mission leaders, and practitioners across North America. ASM grants this annual award to a recent publication that demonstrates an outstanding contribution to the field of missiology and mission studies.
Larry W. Caldwell is chief academic officer, dean, and professor of intercultural studies and Bible interpretation at Kairos University in Sioux Falls, SD. He also serves as senior missiologist for Converge Worldwide. Previously, he and his wife, Mary, were missionaries with Converge in Manila, Philippines, for 21 years, and he continues to teach on contextualization and Bible interpretation throughout the world.
In The Bible in Culture, Caldwell introduces ethnohermeneutics—a revolutionary yet biblical approach to reading Scripture with, rather than for, the world. Drawing from decades of experience living overseas, Caldwell demonstrates that every culture has its own tools for understanding meaning and shows how God uses these to communicate the truth of his word. This book challenges readers’ assumptions about the interpretive task, encouraging and equipping them to rethink how the Bible can be understood in various cross-cultural, multicultural, and multigenerational contexts.
William Carey Publishing was founded in 1969 to make groundbreaking missionary and missiological research widely accessible. Its mission is to equip and empower the global church with the essential knowledge needed to advance world evangelization.
