Bloomington, MN — August 24, 2026 — It is with deep regret that Bethany Press announces that the company will permanently cease operations by the end of next week. The decision was made August 10, and the company is working diligently to complete as many customer projects as possible before closing.
For more than 15 years, Bethany Press has relied on a paper supply program in which its primary paper vendor maintained inventory of various grades and roll sizes at a Chicago-area warehouse. Recently, the mill producing the company’s primary book papers reduced its book-paper production by approximately 50 percent. As a result, the paper inventory needed to support Bethany Press’s production requirements could no longer be maintained.Bethany Press immediately explored alternative sources and worked to secure additional paper.
However, the lead times required for new mill production, combined with the existing inventory shortfall, created an unavoidable four- to five-week gap in the company’s paper supply. The resulting disruption has placed the company in an unsustainable operating position, making the diƯicult decision to close unavoidable.
“This is one of the most difficult decisions we have ever had to make,” said Pete Larson, President/CEO of Bethany Press. “For 29 years, we have been privileged to work with outstanding customers, employees, vendors, and industry partners. We are deeply grateful for the trust our customers have placed in us to produce their books, and for the relationships we have built along the way.”
Bethany Press is making every effort to complete projects that can be reasonably finished before the company ceases operations and is working with customers, employees, and vendors throughout the closing process.
The company extends its sincere appreciation to the many customers who have entrusted Bethany Press with the production of their titles over nearly three decades. The company also recognizes the significant impact this closure will have on its employees, customers, vendors, and their families.
