ECPA member Interstudy makes move toward interactive voice
App developer Interstudy, Inc. has launched an app that offers books and small group studies in a new interactive format. By fall, there will be hundreds of books available for purchase from Christian publishers like David C Cook, InterVarsity Press, New Growth Press, and more. The app presents books in a conversational style, offering discussion-based material the way the author intended.

ECPA has renamed their online database of book proposals, formerly known as ChristianManuscriptSubmissions.com (CMS), to ChristianBookProposals.com. “We believe that our new name, ChristianBookProposals.com, states more clearly what this service is: an online book proposal submission program,” explains ECPA president Stan Jantz.

The Art of Writing conference, held November 6 at Lipscomb University in Nashville and immediately following ECPA PubU, will host four in-depth sessions for writers and publishers. They are:
Reaching the Heart of Readers with NYT bestselling author Lysa TerKeurst, who is also the president of Proverbs 31 Ministries and the founder of COMPEL training. This session will also serve as the closing session of PubU.

Named to the marketing panel are: Dave Schroeder, VP of Marketing at B&H Publishing Group; Michele Misiak, Marketing Director at Revell Books / Baker Publishing Group; Steve Laube, Agent for Steve Laube Agency and President of Enclave Publishing; and author, blogger, podcaster Anne Bogel.
The event will precede The Christy Award™ Gala that evening, featuring authors Patti Calahan, Becky Wade, and James Rubart, and announcing the winners of the 2019 Christy Award program, honoring excellence in Christian fiction.

Industry's Lifetime Achievement Award taking nominations
The ECPA Recognition Committee is accepting nominations for the Kenneth N Taylor Lifetime Achievement Award until August 31. The Kenneth N. Taylor Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes a leader from within the Christian publishing profession whose lifetime of achievement is exemplified by these three characteristics: revolution, innovation and growth.
Last week to submit book cover nominations for Top Shelf program
The Top Shelf Book Cover Award program will accept submissions for the 2019 program until Sunday, August 31. Nominations are open for books released for public sale between June 2018 – August 2019. ECPA member publishers are encouraged to showcase their best covers of the year in this program honoring design excellence.
Christian Book Award® submissions to begin next week
ECPA publishers are encouraged to start identifying their titles for submission in the upcoming 2020 Christian Book Award® program. Nominations are accepted in 12 categories: Audio; Bibles; Bible Reference works; Bible Study; Ministry Resources; Biography & Memoir; Christian Living; Faith & Culture; Devotion & Gift; Children (ages 0-8); Young People’s Literature (ages 9-16 non-fiction); and New Author. The entry period is September 1-30 for books, Bibles, and audio books published October 2019 to October 2019.
PubU Track Spotlight
PubU debuts Emerging Leader track for those newer to the industry
ECPA PubU will feature a one-day track designed for those newer to the industry with connection, training, and inspiration as its focus. Six mini-sessions will be offered on Day 1 of PubU, allowing attendees to plug into the track related to their publishing role on Day 2. The new track was curated by Brain Trust lead Randall Payleitner, Associate Publisher of Moody Publishers. He says: “Our goal is to help the industry’s emerging leaders connect with others in their same stage and to encourage them to be on mission in our industry.” The six sessions are:

LifeWay Global and its B&H Publishing Español division snagged a dozen awards at the Spanish Evangelical Publishers Association’s (SEPA) awards banquet Aug. 7. The annual event recognizes the highest quality and excellence in the publication, sale and marketing of Spanish Christian literature.

In the United States, 2.7 million children have fathers in prison. Men are two times more likely to go to prison when raised in a fatherless home. Seventy percent of juveniles in the prison system are from fatherless homes. And ninety percent of homeless and runaways are from fatherless homes.
