Brentwood, Tenn. – (October 14, 2024) B&H Academic is proud to announce its partnership with Apollos as their new North American publisher for the New Studies in Biblical Theology series.
This well-established series, edited by D.A. Carson and Benjamin L. Gladd, contains 60 volumes released between 1995 and 2024. Beginning in 2025, B&H Academic will serve as the publisher in the United States and Canada, while Apollos will remain the series’ publisher throughout the rest of the world. The similar visions of both B&H Academic and Apollos to strengthen the church through biblically sound resources form the backbone of this partnership.
“The New Studies in Biblical Theology is one of the most recognizable series in biblical studies, widely respected for its excellence and its fruitful contribution to biblical understanding,” said Madison Trammel, publisher of B&H Academic. “So many pastors, students, and scholars have benefited from its exploration of biblical books and themes. The B&H Academic team is honored to be entrusted with the NSBT series in North America, and we look forward to partnering with Apollos in relaunching it for its next 30 years of faithful study in service to the church.”
The New Studies in Biblical Theology series addresses key issues in the discipline of biblical theology for instruction and edification, but ultimately as a creative attempt to help Christians understand better:
- the nature and status of biblical theology, including its relationship to other disciplines
- the articulation and exposition of the structure of thought from a particular biblical writer or text
- the delineation of a biblical theme across the biblical corpus
Thomas Creedy, Publishing Director for Apollos, said:
“I’m delighted to be partnering with B&H Academic for the next phase of the NSBT. We are so grateful to our friends at IVP Academic for sharing in the ministry of NSBT to date, but we are excited to see how B&H Academic will expand the series reach, broaden the author base, and help the church continue to dig deep into the glorious riches of Scripture”
Series editors Carson and Gladd said:
“Working on the NSBT series has been a profound gift from God, and we pray for the increase in its readership and influence with this new partnership with B&H Academic. We are glad to see the continued interest and passion for the series from American pastors in particular.”
B&H Academic looks forward to the Evangelical Theological Society annual meeting in November, where they will announce which titles will be released in 2025. For inquiries regarding publicity, email Dakota Rice (dakota.rice@lifeway.com).

NSBT New USA Publisher FAQ
The New Studies in Biblical Theology series [NSBT] has been in print and published by Apollos, an imprint of Inter-Varsity Press (London, UK) since the early 1990s. In 2025, the Series will switch American publisher from IVP Academic (an imprint of InterVarsity Press, Illinois) to B&H Academic (an imprint of B&H Publishing Group, based in Nashville). As this represents a change of distribution and has some practical implications, the publishers have compiled this FAQ to assist readers, booksellers, librarians, and prospective authors.
Who Publishes the NSBT Series?
The series originates with Apollos, an imprint of Inter-Varsity Press in the United Kingdom. Inter-Varsity Press, founded in 1928, originally licensed the North American rights to the NSBT series to Eerdmans, before shifting to InterVarsity Press USA. Early volumes may be found in an alternative cover!
Apollos continues to originate and publish the NSBT worldwide, but North American marketing, sales and distribution will now be through B&H Academic.
Why is this happening?
As the series approached its 30th Birthday, a number of publishers expressed interest in licensing the NSBT series in North America. B&H Academic made the strongest offer in terms of editorial fit, promotional activity, and other factors – this is no reflection on the good work that IVP Academic has done for NSBT in the past couple of decades, but merely reflects a renewed vision and impetus for the series.
What will happen to the ‘backlist’ NSBT titles?
Volumes 1-63 (Possessed by God through to Answering the Psalmist’s Perplexity) will remain available through IVP Academic in North America, and Apollos/IVP throughout the rest of the world.
Should a volume go to a second edition, that new edition would be with B&H Academic in North America.
Who should I talk to about a prospective NSBT Volume?
The first port of call should be D. A. Carson and Benjamin L. Gladd, the NSBT Series editors. You can also contact Thomas Creedy, IVP Publishing Director; Joshua Wells, IVP Senior Commissioning Editor; or Kristen Padilla at B&H Academic for an initial conversation. Both Joshua and Kristen will be at ETS/IBR/SBL in San Diego for 2024, and willing to meet to discuss possible NSBT volumes.
The series is peer-reviewed and highly selective.
Where should I request a desk/exam/review copy of a forthcoming NSBT Volume?
If you are in North America, contact Dakota Rice with B&H Academic: dakota.rice@lifeway.com
If you are in the UK or the rest of the world, please contact IVP/Apollos: ivp@ivpbooks.com
Who should I contact regarding possible non-English translation of an NSBT Volume?
The series originates with Inter-Varsity Press in the United Kingdom, so please contact ivp@ivpbooks.com. The series has volumes in a number of languages, both in print and in production, and we are always keen to see the series reach expand.
