Graf-Martin Communications and Baker Publishing Group partner in new initiative for Canadian Churches

May 30, 2017 by Sheri Toomb

WATERLOO, ON – May 30, 2017 – Blessing: Dictionary.com says it’s a special favor, mercy, or benefit (Dictionary.com); and Merriam-Webster says it’s a thing conducive to happiness or welfare (Merriam-Webster). In Canada, blessing is something Graf-Martin Communications (GMC) and Baker Publishing Group (BPG) love doing for Canadian churches. In early 2017, the two companies partnered to launch Blessing Box, an initiative to connect new, valuable Christian books and resources with deserving churches across Canada.

Four times a year, pastors, church staff, and congregation members can nominate their church to receive a Blessing Box valued at over $300 each. Ten churches from across Canada will be chosen as recipients each season, with a grand total value of $12,000 of resources sent to Canadian Churches each year. Each Blessing Box is curated to include Baker Publishing Group’s new and best-of resources that facilitate conversations, and inspire opportunities for enriched congregational community.

With the loss of many Christian bookstores across Canada over the past decade, leaving many communities without a local Christian store, connecting points for churches looking for curriculum and resource recommendations have shifted. Graf-Martin Communications’ President, Ellen Graf-Martin is clear on the purpose of Blessing Box. “Ultimately, our organization exists to resource the Canadian church, as we support Christian content creators. I’m so glad to have found another simple way to make both these pieces of our mission come to life.”

This May & June, churches will have the opportunity to win a Blessing Box specifically curated to support and inspire Women’s Ministry Leaders. This season’s Blessing Box is packed with books and small group Bible study materials from leading female Christian communicators including:

  • Holley Gerth, You’re Already Amazing book, DVD and LifeGrowth Guide
  • Lisa Bevere, Without Rival
  • Susie Larson, Your Powerful Prayers
  • Debbie Lindell, She Believes
  • Suzanne Eller, Come with Me
  • Renee Swope, A Confident Heart

Baker Publishing Group’s Executive VP of Sales and Marketing, Dave Lewis, says, “We are enthusiastic about partnering with Graf-Martin Communications on this new initiative. Baker Publishing Group has chosen to invest deeply in Canada since 2008, and we see this as an excellent new way to connect life-changing resources with churches across the country.”

With topics ranging from prayer and simplicity in a hectic age, to confidence and meaningful friendships, to Christian women in history, the May Blessing Box is sure to inspire and empower Church and ministry leaders across the country as they read and lead. For more information on The Blessing Box and the May current giveaway, visit www.blessingbox.ca .

Song of Silence wins 2016 Reviewers’ Choice Award

May 29, 2017 by Sheri Toomb

Romantic Times (RT) recently announced its 2016 Reviewers’ Choice Awards, and Song of Silence by Cynthia Ruchti won in the Inspirational category. The award ceremony took place at the RT Booklovers Convention on May 4 in Atlanta. These awards honor the best romance books of the previous year, and winners are selected by over fifty reviewers from the RT staff. For a complete list of winning titles, please click here.

Author Cynthia Ruchti said it was an honor to represent Abingdon Press at the award ceremony in Atlanta.

“Who would have thought a novel with a 56 year old heroine and a 62 year old hero would have found this kind of recognition? I’m grateful to Abingdon Press for inviting me to tell the story, to the readers and reviewers who turned the pages and walked beside the characters, and to the Author of hope.”

Song of Silence (Abingdon Press; ISBN 9781426791499; $14.99)

Forced to retire from her position as music educator in a small Midwestern K-8 school, Lucy can only watch helplessly as the program her father started years ago disintegrates before her eyes. As the music fades and a chasm separates her from the passion of her heart, Lucy wonders if her faith’s song has gone silent, too. The musical score of her life seems to be missing all the notes. When a simple misstep threatens to silence Lucy forever, a young boy and his soundless mother change the way she sees—and hears—everything.

Cynthia Ruchti tells stories hemmed in hope. She’s the award-winning author of 16 books and a frequent speaker for women’s ministry events. She serves as the Professional Relations Liaison for American Christian Fiction Writers, where she helps retailers, libraries, and book clubs connect with the authors and books they love. She lives with her husband in Central Wisconsin. Visit her online at CynthiaRuchti.com.

Abingdon Press is the primary publishing imprint for The United Methodist Publishing House and has a tradition of crossing denominational boundaries with thought-provoking and inspirational books. Abingdon Press titles include a wide array of quality Bibles, Bible studies, small group studies, Christian living, fiction, devotional, academic, professional, and reference titles published each year to enrich church communities across the globe. Chip Gaines’ new book “Capital Gaines: The Smart Things I’ve Learned from Doing Stupid Stuff” coming October 2017

May 29, 2017 by Sheri Toomb

(Nashville, Tenn.) – W Publishing Group, an imprint of Thomas Nelson, is releasing a book from HGTV star Chip Gaines called Capital Gaines: The Smart Things I’ve Learned from Doing Stupid Stuff on October 17. This book comes one year after the much anticipated and highly successful New York Times bestseller The Magnolia Story from Chip and Joanna Gaines, which just surpassed 1.3 million copies sold.

While The Magnolia Story was the first book from the Fixer Upper stars offering their fans a detailed look at their life together, Capital Gaines will delve deeper into Chip’s story and what makes him who he is today.

“Chip and Joanna are simply a force of nature. Their authenticity, their energy, their humor, and their faith have already been an inspiration to millions. We’re looking very much forward to helping Chip share the personal story behind how they built their business – the guts, the belly-flops, the breakthroughs – with his signature and irresistible mix of humanity and hilarity.”
— Daisy Hutton, VP and Publisher, W Publishing Group

The funny and talented Chip Gaines is well known to millions of people as a TV star, renovation expert, bestselling author, husband to Joanna, and father of four in Waco, Texas.  But long before the world took notice, Chip was a serial entrepreneur who was always ready for the next challenge, even if it didn’t quite work out as planned.  Whether it was buying a neighborhood laundromat or talking a bank into a loan for some equipment to start a lawn-mowing service, Chip always knew that the most important thing was to take that first step.

In Capital Gaines, we walk alongside him as he relives some of his craziest antics and the lessons learned along the way.  “I couldn’t be more excited to share some of the experiences (read: DUMB decisions) in my life that have led to some of my biggest breakthroughs in business,” Chip says. “I want people to know that they can take risks in life and achieve what they think is impossible, even with a few bumps in the road along the way.” His mentors taught him to never give up and his family showed him what it meant to always have a positive attitude despite your circumstances.  Throw in a natural daredevil personality and a willingness to do (or eat!) just about anything, and you have the life and daily activity of Chip.

Capital Gaines is the perfect book for anyone looking to succeed not only in business, but more importantly in life.  For more details and to pre-order, go to www.magnoliamarket.com/capital-gaines.
