Tyndale Momentum authors appear on NBC’s “Today”

April 17, 2017 by Sheri Toomb

I’ll Push You: A Journey of 500 miles, two best friends, and one wheelchair by Patrick Gray and Justin Skeesuck

Carol Stream, Ill. – On Good Friday, Tyndale Momentum (@tyndalehouse) authors Patrick Gray and Justin Skeesuck (@illpushyou) appeared on NBC’s “Today,” in a pre-produced segment narrated by correspondent Jenna Bush Hager. The featured book, I’ll Push You: A Journey of 500 miles, two best friends, and one wheelchair (ISBN 978-1-4964-2170-8, $15.99 SC), which includes a foreword by Donald Miller, releases in early June.

Just hours after the segment, the book (www.illpushyou.com) rocketed to near the top of multiple online retailer hourly best seller lists. In addition, the segment was shared on NBC’s Facebook page (http://www.today.com/kindness/i-ll-push-you-man-pushes-wheelchair-bound-best-friend-t110422) and has received more than 17,000 likes, while ABC News followed up with an article of its own several days later (http://abcnews.go.com/Lifestyle/idaho-man-pushes-best-friend-wheelchair-trek-500/story?id=46831152).

The segment told the story of two friends who, born in the same hospital two days apart, grew up together, faced life shoulder to shoulder, and were best man in each other’s weddings. But then the unexpected struck—Justin was diagnosed with a progressive neuromuscular disease that robbed him the use of his arms and legs. When Justin shared his dream of traveling the famous Camino de Santiago—a spiritual pilgrimage through the mountains and rough terrain of northern Spain—Patrick immediately volunteered to push Justin in his wheelchair. Their six-week, 500-mile trek, with its physical challenges, host of colorful characters, and deep inner battles, would prove to be the most difficult and important journey either man would take.

In addition to the book, a feature length documentary by the same name will release later this month. It has been selected to be premiered at The 2017 Newport Beach Film Festival. Four screenings of the film will be presented at Newport.

I’ll Push You will feature a national publicity and speaking tour beginning in late May.

Chasing Grace by 4-Time Olympic Gold Medalist Sanya Richards-Ross receives praise from Usain Bolt, Michael Strahan, Laila Ali

April 17, 2017 by Sheri Toomb

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., April 17, 2017— Chasing Grace: What the Quarter Mile Has Taught Me About God and Life by Sanya Richards-Ross, one of the most-decorated female track and field athletes of all time, has received acclaim from legendary athletes and celebrities including Usain Bolt, Michael Strahan, Laila Ali, Jackie Joyner-Kersee, Vince Young, Estelle, Sarah Jakes Roberts and more.

“I’m proud of everything Sanya has accomplished, including the writing of Chasing Grace,” says Usain Bolt. “Through her vulnerability in sharing some of her most personal stories of victory and defeat, triumph and tribulation, I once again see her strength.” Per Jackie Joyner-Kersee, “Chasing Grace is the script for a manual that can help guide anyone wanting to be the best. Once you start reading, you will find it difficult to stop turning the pages in the anticipation of wanting more.”

Michael Strahan said, “More than a story about achievement and victory, Sanya’s book delivers as a journey of discovery. It is honest and heartfelt, and I believe she openly examines her life’s work in the pursuit of helping others live their dreams.”

In Chasing Grace, Richards-Ross shares her sometimes heartbreaking, ultimately triumphant journey from childhood to the gold medal podium at multiple Olympic games. Richards-Ross opens-up about her struggles with body image, her relationship with husband and two-time NFL Super Bowl champion Aaron Ross, and the faith that has sustained and propelled her. For the first time, she vulnerably details her painful struggles with her defeat at the Beijing Games.

Concordia Publishing House Expands Christian Fiction Line

April 16, 2017 by Sheri Toomb

Summer camp, a dystopian city, and small town Bradbury set the stage for upcoming releases

Christian fiction readers will have the opportunity to go to summer camp, discover the Message worth dying for, and see the gritty reality of small-town life in three new fiction books set to release from Concordia Publishing House.

Described as “an amusing, romantic, and uplifting YA tale” by Kirkus Reviews, Last Summer at Eden is written by Christina Hergenrader. In the novel, Camp Eden is on the verge of being closed forever. Firmly believing that kids need camp, nineteen-year-old Poppi sets out to save Eden. “I hope Last Summer at Eden is a bouncy, fun camp song in the middle of the humdrum of bad-news headlines,” says Hergenrader. “May it be the bright campfire spark in the darkness of rude social media comments. Camp and young love and Jesus? YES!” Last Summer at Eden releases April 11.

Next up, Simon and the Messengers are back in The Messengers: Concealed, the second installment in Lisa Clark’s dystopian series. In Concealed, Simon must learn to navigate the perilous city of Westbend and his life as an outcast. Simon needs the Messengers now more than ever, because lurking in the shadows is an ever-present threat that drives the resistance deeper underground. The Messengers: Concealed releases May 2.

Finally, Christy Award nominee Katie Schuermann returns with her third and final book in the Anthems of Zion series, The Harvest Raise. In The Harvest Raise, it’s summer break in Bradbury. But at Zion Lutheran Church, the changes and chances of life don’t take a vacation. Beloved characters from House of Living Stones and The Choir Immortal return to discover that they must trust far more than just their crops to the Lord of the harvest. The Harvest Raise will release this summer on June 13.

Journalist and Popular QVC Host Debuts Hopeful Story of Adoption & Infertility; Kerstin Lindquist’s 5 Months Apart

April 16, 2017 by Sheri Toomb

“Kerstin radiates light…a beautiful (inside and out) woman of God who personifies joy, positivity, love, and strength. From the moment we met, we connected instantly on family, motherhood, work, and most of all, Jesus. Her story is a powerful testament to the fact that no matter how hard life gets, faith and your belief in God can take you anywhere….“
—Mally Roncal, celebrity makeup artist & author

Emmy-winning journalist and popular QVC host, Kerstin Lindquist, may seem like she has it all—success, glamour, and a beautiful family. Yet, her journey to becoming what she most wanted to be—a mother—proved be especially arduous. In her debut book, 5 Months Apart, Lindquist tells a story that many women across the world have experienced, one that includes years of living with infertility and a difficult struggle to adopt—one that is no respecter of women.

Lindquist’s story played out on the set of a local news program every morning, as her dreams of becoming a mother seemed to drift away year after year. When the hard truth of infertility brought her to her knees, she had no idea of the life that God had in store for her and her family. 5 Months Apart is more than a book on hardship; it is intended to help families come out of their society-imposed seclusion, ask for help on the journey, and believe in the ultimate happy ending.

The Lindquists are now a beautiful family of five, including two girls—both conceived in the same month but born five months apart. In 5 Months Apart, Lindquist writes authentically from her heart, sharing not only all the struggles and hardships but also the faith that pulled her through. Released just in time for National Infertility Awareness Week, April 23-29, Lindquist ‘s biggest desire is that 5 Months Apart will encourage everyone who has ever trudged the same weary path she once did.

Kerstin Lindquist is a survivor of infertility and a toilsome adoption, as well as an Emmy Award-winning broadcast news journalist and host at the leading home shopping channel. The confessional nature of her writing and speaking and the intensely personal stories she shares have endeared her to multiple generations of women who have struggled with creating a family. Kerstin and her husband are raising their three little Christians in Pennsylvania. They spend their free time in warm climates—preferably with sand. Learn more at kerstinlindquist.com.

‘The Case for Christ’ opens in Box Office Top 10; Sets 40% boost in theaters for Easter week

April 16, 2017 by Sheri Toomb

Feature Film Version of Lee Strobel’s Best-Selling Book Rates a Rare A+ CinemaScore on Opening Weekend

Photography by Jeff Schear

Leslie and Lee Strobel on the red carpet during Chicago premier

SCOTTSDALE, ARIZ.—April 10, 2017—THE CASE FOR CHRIST—the feature film based on Lee Strobel’s best-selling book of the same name—with an A+ CinemaScore drew $3.9 million box office in its opening weekend, ranking in the weekend’s top 10 films.

With that strong showing, producers are expanding THE CASE FOR CHRIST to approximately 1600 theaters nationwide this weekend, a 40 percent jump.

The film traces Strobel’s true story of an award-winning investigative journalist—and determined atheist—who sets out to disprove his wife’s new-found Christian faith.

“It’s a love story and a thriller detective film,” Strobel said. “I’m delighted it resonated with audiences and opened so strong.”

“THE CASE FOR CHRIST offers an honest and compelling look at the reliability of the resurrection through the eyes of a man desperate to disprove it,” said Pure Flix CEO and producer Michael Scott. “For those with questions, and others who just want to affirm their faith, Lee Strobel’s dramatic on-screen investigation is clearly resonating with people. Seeing this film is the perfect way to celebrate Easter this Sunday.”

From Pure Flix and Triple Horse Studios, THE CASE FOR CHRIST stars Mike Vogel (THE HELP), Erika Christensen (Parenthood), Academy Award® winner Faye Dunaway and Academy Award® nominee Robert Forster. Jonathan M. Gunn (DO YOU BELIEVE?) directs THE CASE FOR CHRIST, written by Brian Bird (When Calls the Heart, Touched by An Angel).

A hard-driving journalist, Strobel was where he expected to be at work: on top. His award-winning investigative reporting had earned him a promotion to legal editor at the Chicago Tribune. But things were going less well at home where his wife Leslie’s newfound faith in Christ flew against everything he believed—or didn’t believe—as an avowed atheist.

Utilizing his journalistic and legal training, Strobel begins a quest to debunk the claims of Christianity in order to save his crumbling marriage. Chasing down the biggest story of his career, he comes face-to-face with unexpected results that could change everything he knows to be true.

THE CASE FOR CHRIST is distributed by Pure Flix and produced by Michael Scott, David A.R. White, Karl Horstmann and Brittany Lefebvre. It premiered nationwide in a Fathom one-night event on April 6 and began wide release on April 7. TheCaseForChristMovie.com

HarperCollins Christian Publishing Shifts Publishing Programs to Prepare for Expanded Focus

April 16, 2017 by Sheri Toomb

(Nashville, TN) April 11, 2017  –  HarperCollins Christian Publishing (HCCP) announced today three changes within its publishing programs to expand its reach with faith-based inspirational content.  The changes to its publishing leadership better align the business to aggressively pursue additional content sources.

Daisy Blackwell Hutton is being promoted to vice president and publisher for the W Publishing Group, a nonfiction imprint of Thomas Nelson.  Hutton has been the company’s fiction publisher for Thomas Nelson and Zondervan books for the past five years.  She joined the organization in 2008 as vice president of licensing for Thomas Nelson, after working for both literary agents and publishing houses in New York and Boston.   During her tenure as  publisher, she has presided over a number of New York Times and USA Today bestsellers, including novels by Colleen Coble, Terri Blackstock, Charles Martin, Rachel Hauck, Melanie Dickerson, and Max Lucado. Under her leadership, Hutton has diversified the fiction portfolio to include authors who traditionally wrote for a secular audience but were inspired by their own faith to cross over into the Christian market.

Amanda Bostic will become the new publisher for HCCP’s fiction program.  Bostic has served on the fiction’s editorial team for the past 13 years.  She began her career as an associate editor for Thomas Nelson Fiction and most recently served as associate publisher for Thomas Nelson and Zondervan Fiction. Bostic is the editor of bestselling fiction authors Colleen Coble, Charles Martin, Terri Blackstock, and more.  She is well-known in the publishing industry for her experience and ability to mold new authors into bestselling storytellers.

Matt Baugher, formerly senior vice president and publisher for the W Publishing Group, will take on the newly created role of senior vice president of author and partnership development. Baugher will concentrate primarily on discovering and developing new relationships for both Thomas Nelson and Zondervan. In Baugher’s 10 years with Thomas Nelson, he has worked with first-time authors of bestselling titles including Same Kind of Different As Me by Ron Hall and Denver Moore, Heaven Is For Real by Todd Burpo, The Magnolia Story by Chip and Joanna Gaines, and This Life I Live by Rory Feek.    These books gained the attention of readers because of their inspirational and sometimes miraculous stories. Many of Baugher’s projects have been signed by major movie studios.  Baugher’s passion and experience working with new authors to develop their life experiences into bestselling stories will drive this new initiative forward.

“This is an exciting time of growth for our company,” said Mark Schoenwald, president and CEO of HCCP.  “Daisy has demonstrated consistent effective leadership and expertise as a publisher and is prepared to take the next step in her career.  Amanda has learned under Daisy’s guidance and is also ready to assume this lead role and continue its healthy growth.  Matt has a proven track record of success in leading the W Publishing Group and will now use his ability to find and develop meaningful and motivating stories and content full time.  These changes to our publishing programs allow us to take a proactive lead to drive growth and expansion of our business and partnership with our authors to reach new readers.”

Transitions for Hutton, Bostic, and Baugher will begin immediately under the guidance of senior vice president and HCCP group publisher, David Moberg.
