(Nashville, Tenn.) May 6, 2019—After receiving heart-breaking news on Saturday, May 4, 2019 that New York Times best-selling author Rachel Held Evans had passed, the publishing teams at Thomas Nelson and Zondervan offer their deepest sympathy for her family and loved ones. Rachel was best known for her authentic voice in the Christian community, with thoughts that provoked, challenged, and strengthened followers of Jesus Christ.
In 2010, Rachel’s debut title, Evolving in Monkey Town (Zondervan), which was re-released in 2014 as Faith Unraveled: How a Girl Who Knew All the Answers Learned to Ask Questions, unpacked the beginning of Rachel’s faith journey that would eventually lead to the radical and often humorous life experiments told in A Year of Biblical Womanhood : How a Liberated Woman Found Herself Sitting on Her Roof, Covering Her Head, and Calling Her Husband ‘Master’ (Thomas Nelson, 2012). Rachel was well-known by readers for her wit as well as her honest and outspoken opinion of today’s Church and its influence in our culture. Searching for Sunday: Loving, Leaving, and Finding the Church (Thomas Nelson, 2015) was written to showcase her belief in the power of grace, and Inspired: Slaying Giants, Walking on Water, and Loving the Bible Again, her most recent book with Thomas Nelson, was a quest to understand what the Bible is and how it is meant to be read. Rachel’s last book, Wholehearted Faith is currently scheduled to release from HarperOne in October 2020.
“Rachel embodied humility and grace in her every conversation and interaction,” said senior acquisitions editor for Thomas Nelson, Jenny Baumgartner. “We loved her dearly at Thomas Nelson, and our hearts and prayers are with her husband and their two young children as they face a very challenging road ahead. There is an outpouring of love and gratefulness for Rachel right now, and the immense impact she had in Christendom is seen throughout the media. I am so grateful that her books continue her legacy of risking it all for continued faith in Jesus.”
Brian Hampton, senior v-p and group publisher for HarperCollins Christian Publishing commented, “The entire HarperCollins Christian Publishing team was so sad to hear of Rachel’s passing. We knew Rachel as a strong, curious, and kind person and a writer who was deeply committed to her craft. We are proud to be the publisher of several of Rachel Held Evans’ books, and our thoughts are with Dan and their children.”
Rachel’s teaching and influence will continue to impact the world’s understanding and interpretation of the scripture, and to stimulate cultural conversations in the Church for years to come. In Faith Unraveled, Rachel wrote, “What my generation is learning the hard way is that faith is not about defending the conquered ground but about discovering new territory. Faith isn’t about being right, or settling down, or refusing to change. Faith is a journey, and every generation contributes its own sketches to the map. I’ve got miles and miles to go on this journey, but I think I can see Jesus up ahead.”

Uhrichsville, OH—New York Times bestselling author Wanda E. Brunstetter has reached another historic milestone in her decades-long writing career. With the help of her bestselling new Prayer Jars series, she has officially exceeded the 11 million mark in copies sold.
Brunstetter is undeniably one of the most prolific authors in both the Christian and mainstream markets with a published book list that exceeds 100 titles. A number of her works have frequented the nation’s most prestigious bestseller lists including the NY Times, USA Today, Publishers Weekly, ECPA, and more. Most recently, The Hope Jar, book 1 in her Prayer Jars series, has remained on the ECPA fiction bestsellers list 8 months straight since its August 2018 release.

In addition to her writing talents, much of Brunstetter’s success can be attributed to her accurate portrayal of the Amish and her deep connection and dedication to her readers.
June 2019 will mark the simultaneous release of two brand-new Brunstetter books. The Brides of the Big Valley, co-authored with family members Jean and Richelle Brunstetter, is a three-in-one collection that takes place in a real, but virtually unknown Amish community in Pennsylvania called the Big Valley. Pastor Mike Glenn to release “Coffee with Mom” to encourage those affected by Alzheimer’s and dementia
[NASHVILLE, TENN., April 29, 2019—] According to the Alzheimer’s Association, an approximate 5.8 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s, and over 16 million Americans provide unpaid care for people with Alzheimer’s or other dementias1.
B&H will release “Coffee with Mom: Caring for a Parent with Dementia” from pastor and author Mike Glenn, a book about Glenn’s mother’s fight with dementia and his constant struggle of wanting to help her but not always knowing how (June 1, 2019, B&H Publishing).
During her four-year battle with Alzheimer’s and dementia, Glenn often had morning coffee with his mother in the nursing home. He published quotes from their sometimes funny, sometimes heartbreaking conversations on Twitter and found that his stories deeply resonated with others going through similar journeys with their loved ones.
Glenn says writing “Coffee with Mom” was one of the ways he dealt with his own grief, but he also wrote it in hopes that readers walking a similar journey will find a few laughs, realize they’re not alone and find the courage to do the best they can.
“I wrote ‘Coffee with Mom’ because my mom is funny and tough. Growing up with her made me the man I am; taking care of her was the most difficult and joyful experience of my life,” Glenn said. “She continued to fashion me into the man she wanted me to be, even when she was too sick to make sense of it all. Come on the journey with my mom, and you’ll find your own journey there as well.”
Glenn is the senior pastor of Brentwood Baptist Church in Brentwood, Tenn., which has grown to a church with eight campuses and more than 11,000 members under Glenn’s leadership since 1991. He is the author of two books, “In Real Time” and “The Gospel of Yes.”
B&H is supporting “Coffee with Mom” with a targeted media campaign, trailer video and digital content offerings. For more information, visit bhpublishing.com.
“Caring for an aging parent, and their caregivers as well, is an issue we don’t discuss with one another nearly often enough,” said Devin Maddox, Trade Book Publisher for B&H. “Mike’s journey has been an encouragement to so many, letting us know we are not alone.”
Mike Glenn is the senior pastor of Brentwood Baptist Church in Brentwood, Tenn.. Under his leadership since 1991, the church has grown to a church with eight campuses and a membership of over 11,000. WESTMONT, IL—InterVarsity Press (IVP) is pleased to welcome Ed Gilbreath onto its staff in the newly created position of executive editor.
Gilbreath, who is also an IVP author of two books, Reconciliation Blues and Birmingham Revolution, most recently served as the executive director of communications for the Evangelical Covenant Church. In that role, he led efforts to redesign and relaunch their ninety-year-old magazine, The Covenant Companion, which has since won numerous accolades, including the Evangelical Press Association’s “Best Denominational Magazine” and the Associated Church Press’s “Best in Class” award.
“I have known Ed Gilbreath throughout the majority of my tenure at InterVarsity Press in his roles as an editor, journalist, author, and business executive,” said Jeff Crosby, IVP publisher. “In each of those spheres, I have admired his keen ability to spot important and timely content, develop writers, and shape their messages in ways that exhort, encourage, challenge, and inform readers. I’m delighted to welcome Ed onto the InterVarsity Press team and look forward to years of fruitful work together.”
Gilbreath was an editor with Christianity Today International from 1999 to 2007, where he wrote and edited award-winning stories for their print and online platforms, helped lead the rebranding of Today’s Christian, and served on a publishing task force for broader planning.
Additionally, Gilbreath founded urbanfaith.com while serving as senior director of communications and digital media with Urban Ministries, Inc. While at Urban Ministries, he cultivated new and diverse Christian voices as contributors, expanded the site traffic, and won the first place prize for digital publications from the Evangelical Press Association.
“I’ve gotten to know Ed Gilbreath over the years as the editor for his two excellent IVP books,” said Cindy Bunch, associate publisher for editorial. “His careful work, elegant and reflective writing, and wide range of reading and research interests have prompted me to think that Ed has the makings of an excellent book editor.”
In this newly formed position of executive editor, Gilbreath will work alongside Bunch and IVP’s editorial team on acquisitions and development, leaning into spaces that promote diversity of authors and readers.
“Drawing on his journalistic background, Ed will be acquiring and developing a range of trade books for us,” Bunch continued. “He will provide some added leadership within the editorial department. His influence will also extend beyond the department as he works on some of IVP’s strategic plan projects, including expanding our marketing initiatives with African American audiences.”
“I’ve long admired IVP’s commitment to thoughtful, biblically rooted books from a diversity of Christian voices,” Gilbreath said. “It was a privilege to become an IVP author a decade ago, and now I’m thrilled by the opportunity to join this great team at a time when the church and society are eager to engage with IVP’s life-changing content like never before.”
Gilbreath will begin his work at IVP on May 6, 2019.
