February 27, 2023 by Sheri Toomb

Carol Stream, Ill. (February 24, 2023) — Focus on the Family, in alliance with Tyndale House Publishers, will release four new kids’ and middle-grade books in the summer of 2023. In line with Focus on the Family’s corporate mission, the new products—Lions, Elephants, and Lies; Life in the Middle; Young Whit and the Phantasmic Confabulator; and Young Whit and the Cloth of Contention—equip parents to raise their children with thriving faith.

Lions, Elephants, and Lies
Magnificent Mulligans #2
Bestselling author Bill Myers releases Magnificent Mulligans #2.

Neither Michael nor Traci Mulligan had intended to have a large family, let alone one of such diversity. But God had other plans. After their second child was born blind, they began to see their gift for reaching out, connecting, and laughing with special children with special needs—all while raising their family among the many creatures living at the animal park that they operate.

They face trials with so many children from such diverse backgrounds and in such an incredible environment. But their faith in Christ, commitment to one another, and ability to laugh at themselves keep them digging in to make it work.

Life in the Middle
Riverbend Friends #5
Life in the Middle is the fifth book in a series that travels alongside four friends as they deal with teen life in Riverbend, Indiana. The novel inspires girls and young women to deepen their relationships with God as they face real-life issues and solve their problems in God-honoring ways.

Tessa feels as if every part of her life is falling to pieces. She finds out that her mom and dad are officially getting divorced. Then Alex, her boyfriend, starts working at a camp where she barely gets to see him. Now Tessa’s dad wants her to watch her half-brother every week, and he also has some news that makes her feel sick. On top of that, her mom wants to move out of the house they have lived in since the time Tessa was born.

No one seems to understand what Tessa is going through or what she is thinking and feeling, and she’s not sure anyone will ever understand. With everything changing, no one seems to care what she thinks.

Young Whit and the Phantasmic Confabulator
Young Whit #4
In Young Whit and the Phantasmic Confabulator, the fourth book in the Young Whit series, young Johnny Whittaker tries to save Duke University basketball, works to unravel a kidnapping, and begins to develop his most-famous invention! He also learns more about the amazing cloth left to him by his mother.

Young Whit and the Cloth of Contention
Young Whit #5
In Young Whit and the Cloth of Contention, the fifth book in the Young Whit series, young Johnny Whittaker’s friend Huck is still in jail. The Confederate gold stolen from the bank is still missing. And Professor Mangle is still determined to get his hands on Johnny’s special cloth, which seems to have the power to heal. What will Johnny and his father do?

IVP announces distribution and product fulfillment outsourcing to Longleaf Services

February 27, 2023 by Sheri Toomb

WESTMONT, IL— Building on its seventy-five-year tradition of developing and publishing thoughtful Christian content for both trade and academic markets, InterVarsity Press has announced a shift in its business operations. Starting in September 2023, IVP will begin outsourcing its order processing, customer service, and product fulfillment operations to Longleaf Services. This change allows IVP to focus on its core editorial strengths and expand its product offerings—including to aggressively seek key acquisitions and to reach a digitally focused generation.

Clay Farr, chief executive officer for Longleaf Services, said, “We are thrilled to welcome InterVarsity Press to the Longleaf Services group of publishers. Our mission is to provide excellent fulfillment and publishing services so our presses can focus on what they do best: produce great content and support their communities of authors, institutions, and readers. We are honored that IVP has selected us to help them achieve their future goals.”

Terumi Echols, president and publisher at IVP, said, “IVP is increasing its capacity to do what we do best, which is to create and publish resources that deepen lives in Christ to engage the university, church, and world. This shift allows us to focus on our strengths and leverage Longleaf’s best-in-class fulfillment and distribution services. As a nonprofit publishing services company, Longleaf understands IVP’s missional ethos, close partnership with thoughtful booksellers, and commitment to trade and academic markets.”

Echols continued, “IVP will be working closely with our trade and academic bookselling partners to help them transition smoothly to Longleaf’s systems. We want them to continue to experience IVP’s excellent customer service throughout this process.”

As the current work of IVP’s distribution, customer service, and general services teams move to Longleaf Services, thirteen positions within IVP will end as of September 1, 2023. Echols said, “I am so grateful for the passion that IVP’s current distribution, customer service, and general services teams have offered to our customers and to our mission. We did not make the decision to outsource lightly, and our team is committed to serving our partners with excellence through this transition.”

While customer care will still be a key focus for IVP, Justin Paul Lawrence, divisional vice president of marketing and sales, said that the time is right for IVP to focus its resources and efforts on the press’s core strengths. “We have gone through a year of strategic planning to identify IVP’s greatest potential opportunities and contributions. IVP is financially healthy, and we’re clear about our mission. We’re ready to make this significant shift so we can better serve authors, readers, and booksellers.”

Echols added, “As we consider our strategic plan for the coming period, it is evident that we must focus on our core competencies of book publishing and resource development. This has always been IVP’s strength and its calling. Working with Longleaf will allow us to invest our resources into developing IVP’s digital infrastructure, expanding into Spanish resources, and positioning IVP to seek acquisitions that expand the reach of IVP’s ministry to the next generation.”

Zonderkidz title with Linsey Davis and Michael Tyler hits NYT bestseller list

February 20, 2023 by Sheri Toomb

NEW YORK TIMES FEB. 19 BESTSELLER LIST AT #9 FOR SMALLEST SPOT OF A DOT:  The Little Ways We’re Different, The Big Ways We’re the Same

New York, February 20, 2023 – The latest book from Emmy award-winning ABC News Anchor Linsey Davis hit the Feb. 19 New York Times bestseller list at #9 for Children’s Picture Books. Her new book, The Smallest Spot of a Dot, released January 31, 2023. The new release is her fifth children’s book, following previous bestselling titles The World Is Awake; One Big Heart: A Celebration of Being More Alike than Different; Stay This Way Forever and How High is Heaven? This is her first time appearing on the list. The newest book was co-written with children’s book author Michael Tyler.

Linsey made appearances on ABC’s Nightline, GMA 3 What You Need to Know, The View, Live with Kelly & Ryan, Good Morning America Weekend in addition to other shows to talk about her book, which began with her fascination studying the Human Genome Project.

This playful and unique topic for a picture book celebrates how we are all part of the human race. Davis desired to make the concept of genes simple enough to understand in “dot” form for young children. The Smallest Spot of a Dot is a story of connection and equality – recognizing people’s similarities and their uniqueness.

The book begins by stating: “Only .1% of our genes make us uniquely who we are. We are 99.9% identical, alike, the same – equal. This book is 100% about that truth.” Davis dedicates the book to her young son Ayden, “and the infinite possibilities of his me-my-mine dot.”

“It’s a curious thing, the way that it seems,

That we’re so much alike because of our genes.”

The co-author is writer and speaker Michael Tyler (author of The Skin You’re In); the illustrator is Lucy Fleming. Fleming also illustrated Davis’ previous four books.

The Smallest Spot of a Dot features charming illustrations by bestselling artist Lucy Fleming.

The Smallest Spot of a Dot:

  • Takes the complicated subject of genes and simplifies it in a way children can relate to; celebrating the equality and the diversity of the human race
  • Was inspired by Davis’ interest in the findings of the Human Genome Project
  • Has the lyrical tone and message fans have come to love from bestselling author Linsey Davis, co-written with author Michael Tyler (The Skin You Live In)
  • Features whimsical illustrations by Lucy Fleming
  • Is the perfect book for parents, grandparents, teachers to read aloud to young children ages 4 – 8, introducing this topic in a sweet and simple way

Linsey Davis is an anchor for ABC News Live Prime, which is ABC News Live’s first-ever streaming evening newscast, and weekend “World News Tonight” on Sundays. She is a correspondent filing reports for “World News Tonight,” “Good Morning America,” “20/20” and “Nightline.” Davis has covered news stories around the globe, including the Las Vegas massacre, Harvey Weinstein allegations and subsequent MeToo Movement, Boston Marathon bombing, Nairobi Mall massacre and several of President Obama’s trips overseas. She has conducted interviews with major influential figures, politicians, health officials and newsmakers including Hillary Clinton, Mike Pence, Dr. Anthony Fauci, Camille Cosby and Bill Gates. She is also known for her 2020 presidential election cycle coverage, during which she was a moderator (her second time) for ABC News’ New Hampshire Democratic Debate and a core member of the anchor team for election day and all eight nights of the Democratic and Republican National Conventions.

Linsey lives in New York with her husband and son, who is her biggest inspiration.

The Smallest Spot of a Dot is available now anywhere books are sold.

Zonderkidz™, the children’s division of Zondervan, inspires young lives through imaginative, innovative and educational resources that represent a Christian worldview and build up God’s children and teens. For additional information, please visit www.zonderkidz.com.

Tyndale Kids announces Summer 2023 releases

February 20, 2023 by Sheri Toomb

Carol Stream, Ill. (February 16, 2023) — Tyndale Kids is releasing three new children’s books in the summer of 2023. In line with the Tyndale Kids mission, these new books—Good Morning, God Loves You; The Top 50 Bible Lessons about Ordinary People in God’s Extraordinary Plan; and Tricky Times—are designed to share God’s love with readers while teaching faith-filled lessons.

Good Morning, God Loves You
Good Morning, God Loves You is a colorful, rhyming board book for families of young children. The beauty of God’s creation, as shown in words and charming illustrations, reminds children how much they are loved by God the Father. Each page reveals family members enjoying the great outdoors as they are greeted with “God loves you!” in barks, birdsong, and other nature sounds. Readers are reminded that hearing a message of God’s love is the best way to begin and celebrate each day. Families with young children will bond together as they snuggle up to read this book. They will be inspired to take a nature walk and discover other expressions of God’s love in the world he created.

The Top 50 Bible Lessons about Ordinary People in God’s Extraordinary Plan
In The Top 50 Bible Lessons about Ordinary People in God’s Extraordinary Plan, children will learn more about the men and women of the Bible. They will learn that just like these Bible characters, though we might not be perfect and we might mess up, God’s love for us never changes. If we are listening to God and in a relationship with him, we can be used by him to do extraordinary things. Each of the 50 chapters teach kids about a person from the Bible and how that person was used in God’s great plan.

Tricky Times: Patrick Wigglesworth’s Bizarre Bible Adventure #2
Tricky Times picks up where the first Patrick Wigglesworth’s Bizarre Bible Adventure book, Over My Head, left off. Patrick is now in fifth grade and at a brand-new school in Gasket, California. He and his best friends are confronted by a new crop of cool rich kids who are threatening to do away with the Gasket way of life. Patrick, wading into politics for the first time, decides to run for student council president in order to thwart the school takeover. Things don’t turn out at all the way he planned in his fifth-grade political career.

The same is true for his Bizarre Bible Adventure (BBA for short), which takes him through the Bible from Joshua through Job. Joshua, the newly appointed leader of the Israelites, serves as Patrick’s tour guide and shows him that taking the Promised Land was just as messy as Patrick’s life!

NavPress to release next installments in Storyline Bible Study Series by Kat Armstrong

February 20, 2023 by Sheri Toomb

Carol Stream, Ill. (February 17, 2023) NavPress will release the next two installments in the Storyline Bible Study series by Kat Armstrong in April 2023.  The third and fourth offerings in the series are titled Sticks and Stones.

Each study contains five lessons and can be paired with its thematic partner for ten weeks or more of seamless study, making them perfect for a whole semester of church ministry. Every study features

  • a gospel presentation before the first lesson;
  • the full text of the Scripture passages surveyed in the study so that you can mark them up and keep your notes in one place;
  • insights from diverse scholars, authors, and Bible teachers; and
  • free resources for preaching and leading small groups.

Sticks: Rooting Your Faith in Godly Wisdom When Your Decisions Matter the Most
Every tree, bush, or vine in the Bible is deeply embedded in an ancient, symbol-driven world where the imagery of a story didn’t just matter—it had meaning. The Sticks Bible study will guide you through five Bible stories where trees point us to how we can seek godly wisdom and make hard choices that honor God.

Stones: Making God’s Faithfulness the Bedrock of Your Faith
The Stones Bible study will guide you through five stone-related stories because stones are physical reminders of God’s faithful activity in the lives of his people.

Sticks | ISBN: 978-1-64158-588-0

Stones | ISBN: 978-1-64158-592-7
