About the Author: Dr. Jan Spivey Gilchrist is an award-winning author and illustrator of more than 80 books whose accolades include the Coretta Scott King Book Award, induction into the International Literary Hall of Fame for Writers of African Descent, and American Library Association Notables. She obtained her Ph.D. in English along with graduate and undergraduate studies in writing, art, and education.Gilchrist is passionate about combining the imagery and lessons from her past into works of art that all children can enjoy.
