Bibles escape Trump’s tariff fight with China
(Christianity Today) The Good Book got good news from the Trump administration: America’s Bibles—most of which are printed in China and imported to the United States—are now exempt from the burgeoning trade war between the two nations.

In August 2019, the U.S. government imposed new tariffs on goods imported to the U.S., including books. In this webinar, David Hetherington (Books International) will moderate a discussion that includes Carrick Wilkie (Publiship), Robert Baensch (Baensch International), and a representative from broker Meadows Wye, who will share their assessments of what these tariffs mean for book publishing and how the industry will need to adapt.

Here is a spotlight on the sessions in the Data, Delivery & Workflow track, one of six tracks offered at the upcoming ECPA PubU, and curated by Rebecca Burgoyne, Exec. Director of Operations for United Methodist Publishing House. These sessions are designed for professionals in operations, workflow, metadata, logistics, and production. They are:
Moving beyond the Client/Vendor Framework: Matt Baehr (Book Manufacturers’ Institute) and panelists from Worzalla, PubGraphics, and Abingdon Press, will discuss how to move into dynamic and fruitful partnerships.
Using Process Improvement for Value Creation and Employee Engagement: Ken Dillard will lead a discussion on implementing process improvement techniques.
Working Smarter: Joshua Tallent (Firebrand) and Timothy Olson (Tyndale) will share what you need to know about getting the most out of your metadata processes and production cycle and the newly formed BISG Workflow Committee
Making Effective Data-driven Decisions: Michial Miller (NPD) will moderate a discussion on putting data to good use, how to discern trends and apply data to business decisions, etc.
Implementing Voice-first Technology in Publishing Production: Bradley Metrock (Score Publishing) and Robin Erwin (Ingram) will discuss the work being done to incorporate voice and voice-first technology into production, automation, operations, manufacturing, and distribution centers.
The State of the Supply Chain: Kathy Ferguson (LSC) and panelists from Lindenmeyr, HarperCollins Christian, Bethany Press, and others, will discuss the state of the supply chain, including paper and materials, printing, manufacturing, distribution, and logistics.
Solving Distribution for Small Presses: Bailey Davis (Ingram) will examine the difference between full service and wholesale distribution, and provide guidance for making distribution decisions, while sharing tools for small publishers to leverage their wholesale relationships and build their business.
ECPA PubU will be held in Nashville on November 5-6 for the Christian publishing practitioner, offering industry training and connection through 42 sessions in six publishing tracks — plus keynote sessions with Lysa TerKeurst and Andrew Peterson. Early bird pricing ends August 30.
