PubU Online kicks off this morning with challenging keynote on the responsibility of publishing to confront injustice
Dr. Theon Hill opened the PubU Online program this morning with his address on the responsibility of Christian publishing in this moment of racial unrest. Dr. Hill unpacked three areas: (1) Diagnosing the situation in which we find ourselves; (2) How this moment intersects with past and current efforts; and (3) The responsibility of Christian publishing to consciously confront injustice in all its forms – through substantive changes at many levels — as a commitment to biblical living. Dr. Hill is the associate professor of communication at Wheaton College and director of the upcoming Center for Faith, Race, and Ethnicity. He is also moderating four panelist sessions in the PubU Online Diversity & Inclusion track, starting tomorrow. PubU Online is a series of webinars held Mon-Thurs until October 1st. Session recordings are available to those who register. The rest of this week’s live sessions held at 10 am central, are:

Books & Such Literary appoints Barb Roose as agent
Janet Kobobel Grant, founder and president of Books & Such Literary Management, announced on August 31, 2020 that Barb Roose, national speaker and author, will join the agency as a literary agent.
Read More...ECPA reduces price for Christian Book Award® submissions; Nominations start tomorrow
ECPA has announced a price decrease for entries into 2021 Christian Book Award® program in light of financial adjustments publishers are making in response to the impact of Covid-19. “The purpose of this price adjustment is to encourage publishers to submit titles to a valuable program that honors and promotes excellence in Christian books and Bibles, while being sensitive to the challenges our industry is facing,” said Paul Santhouse, VP and Publisher for Moody Publishers and the chair of the Recognition Committee. The dates for submission for the 12 categories in the 2021 Christian Book Award program are September 1-30 for books published between October 2019 and October 2020.

Art of Writing and Christy Award webinar series announced for October, November
ECPA has announced the session topics and speakers for the fourth annual ART OF WRITING CONFERENCE, a five-part series of weekly webinars starting on October 8. Each webinar will be held at 7 pm central on October 8, 15, 22, 29 and November 5, bringing together writers, authors and publishing curators for training and connection. Additionally, these sessions will be “bookended” by two free webcasts: one announcing The Christy Award Finalists on October 8 and The Christy Award Winners Celebration webcast on November 12.
ECPA welcomes new members
ECPA recently welcomed two new industry service companies as affiliate associates. They are:
- BookBub is a book discovery service that was created to help readers find new books an authors.
- Creative Enterprises Studio is host to more than 245 Christian freelancers, who work through CES on projects for major Christian publishers and independent clients.

Jesus Calling podcast celebrates 5 million downloads
The Jesus Calling podcast has officially surpassed five million downloads, Thomas Nelson has announced. Lauren Akins, philanthropist, author, mother and wife of multi-platinum entertainer Thomas Rhett, will appear as the special guest to commemorate the milestone. Her episode will air Sept. 17.
