John Sherrill, author and founder of Chosen Books, dies at 94
John Sherrill passed away on Saturday. He was 94. John and his wife, Elizabeth (“Tib”), were two of the four founders of Chosen Books with their friends Len and Catherine Marshall LeSourd. John and Tib were also long-time editors for Guideposts magazine and the co-authors of such bestselling books as The Hiding Place, The Cross and the Switchblade and God’s Smuggler. Obituary and funeral information will be announced soon.
Steve Laube Agency acquires Leslie H. Stobbe Literary Agency
Steve Laube, president of The Steve Laube Agency, has announced the acquisition of the Leslie H. Stobbe Literary Agency. Les Stobbe has been a part of the Christian publishing industry for 62 years, starting as an editor and book buyer, then publisher, book coach, ghostwriter, and the last 25 as a literary agent. Les has been awarded five Lifetime Achievement Awards by writers’ conferences in the U.S. and Canada. This sale will allow him to focus his future efforts on becoming available as a non-fiction ghostwriter, writing coach and title development specialist.

Thanks to The Christy Award™ and some strong releases in November, the spotlight is on fiction in ECPA’s bestsellers lists for December, reflecting POS sales compiled by NPD Bookscan in November. ECPA began managing The Christy Award program earlier this year and produced the Christy Award gala on November 8 at Lipscomb University in Nashville. Christy Awards were given in ten categories, including Book of the Year. Bestselling author Karen Kingsbury was the guest speaker at the gala a day after her latest book was released. “In This Moment” (Howard Books) debuted at #1 on the Top 25 fiction list and at #7 in the Top 50 bestsellers list, the highest ranking for a new title, fiction or nonfiction.
