ECPA Announces the Christian Book Award® Winners in 12 Categories
“PRAYER IN THE NIGHT: FOR THOSE WHO WORK OR WATCH OR WEEP” by New York Times columnist and Anglican pastor Tish Harrison Warren, is named the 2022 CHRISTIAN BOOK OF THE YEAR®
PHILADELPHIA, PENN., May 4, 2022 – Last night, the Evangelical Christian Publishers Association (ECPA) announced the winners of the 2022 Christian Book Awards® and named the 2022 Christian Book of the Year®. Presented annually since 1978, the Christian Book Award® program honors the “best of the year” in Christian literature. The winners were selected from 65 finalists to reflect literary excellence in 12 categories.
Prayer in the Night: For Those Who Work or Watch or Weep by Tish Harrison Warren was named the 2022 CHRISTIAN BOOK OF THE YEAR® while also winning in the Christian Living category. Prayer in the Night explores themes of human vulnerability, suffering, God’s seeming absence, and is set around the ancient End Of Day Prayer of Compline. Published by InterVarsity Press, this is Warren’s second book after her debut bestseller, Liturgy of the Ordinary. Tish writes a weekly newsletter for The New York Times, and is a columnist for Christianity Today. Her articles and essays have appeared in Religion News Service, Christianity Today, Comment Magazine, The Point Magazine, The New York Times, and elsewhere.
The awards were presented at the ECPA Awards Celebration, held at the Hilton Philadelphia Penn’s Landing, amid publishing leaders attending ECPA’s Leadership Summit and featuring LATASHA MORRISON, author of the 2021 Christian Book of the Year, Be the Bridge. In addition, the Pinnacle Award was presented to bestselling author and pastor TIMOTHY KELLER in recognition of his literary work and its significant impact on society and the church.
ECPA president Jeff Crosby reflected on the titles honored: “In one of her books, the author Marilyn McEntyre reminds us that ‘Words are entrusted to us as equipment for our life together, to help us survive, guide, and nourish one another.’ The books selected as finalists, the individual category winners, and the Christian Book of the Year powerfully reflect the ways in which authors and publishers steward the sacred trust of words with excellence.”
