Widow of Whitaker Corporation founder Robert E. Whitaker Sr. passes away
Surrounded by family, Mary Heurich Whitaker, wife of the late Robert E. Whitaker Sr., founder of Whitaker House publishing and Anchor Distributors, passed away. Whitaker Corporation President Robert E. “Bob” Whitaker Jr. said his mother’s quiet strength and faithful prayers served as the perfect complement to his innovative and highly motivated father.

The results of the latest 'State of the Bible' survey by American Bible Society showed African-Americans are more engaged with the Bible than any other group, overwhelmingly citing positive beliefs and hope found in the Scriptures. Among African-Americans, 71 percent are considered Bible engaged or Bible friendly (compared to just 58 percent of all Americans). A small segment of African-Americans, just six percent, have hostile feelings toward the Bible; only four percent are skeptical; and 19 percent are neutral.

HarperCollins Christian Publishing (HCCP) has announced Joey Paul as senior editor, specifically focused on nonfiction imprints for Thomas Nelson and Zondervan. Paul’s publishing legacy is rooted in Thomas Nelson’s history. In 1970 he began his career at Word Publishing, which was acquired by the company in 1992. In 2001, he became publisher of Integrity Publishers, which was also acquired by Thomas Nelson in 2006. While at Integrity, Paul published Sarah Young’s first book, the devotional 'Jesus Calling,' which has become an international brand.

HarperCollins Christian Publishing announced today that LeeEric Fesko has been named associate publisher for the specialty division. In this role, Fesko will join a large and growing area that includes Thomas Nelson gift books, Zondervan gift books, Tommy Nelson children’s books, children’s Bibles, and new media. Within those categories, Fesko will oversee many bestselling authors and brands, and will lead the Zondervan Gift division.

Thirteen industry leaders are planning sessions and inviting speakers for PubU, a 24-hour training and networking event held November 7-8 in Nashville for Christian publishing practitioners in editorial, design, marketing, production/analytics, rights, and reader engagement.
“The conference theme, The Art of Curation, emphasizes the importance of what professional publishers do,” explains ECPA executive director Stan Jantz. “PubU will offer sessions for every aspect of the professional publishing process from curating content from the seed of an idea in an author’s mind for a compelling book, to the art of design and packaging, efficiency of production, and craft of connecting it to spiritually hungry readers around the globe who want to buy it.”
Added Jantz: “The sessions and speakers just now coming in from the brain trust are outstanding. This year will be memorable.” Speakers include: Russell Moore, Barnabas Piper, Andrew Wolgemuth, Chad Allen, Russ Ramsey, Jackie Hill Perry, David McKay, Gabe Lyons, Gabe Wicks, Kristen McLean, Tim Green, Klaus Krogh, Jade Novak, Robert Downs, and much more.
