Former Associate Publisher at UMPH, Mary Catherine Dean, dies at 65
With deep sadness the United Methodist Publishing House announces the passing of Mary Catherine Dean last Monday afternoon. Many know her as the Managing Editor/Editor-in-Chief of Abingdon Press. A member of the UMPH staff since 1983, Mary Catherine served as editor for scores of Abingdon authors and in a variety of editorial and leadership roles, including as an associate publisher, producing materials ranging from books to church curriculum, worship resources, and music products. She most recently oversaw publication of The Advance Daily Christian Advocate, The Daily Christian Advocate, The Book Discipline, and The Book of Resolutions.

HarperCollins Christian Publishing (HCCP) has announced Cristopher Garrido has joined the company as v-p and publisher for its Spanish publishing program. HCCP’s Spanish publishing program includes product under the Grupo Nelson, Editorial Vida and CLIE imprints. Cris Garrido comes to HCCP after developing and directing a successful Spanish publishing program at Lifeway Christian Resources. In this role, Garrido led both B&H Espan͂ol and the Lifeway International publishing initiatives for the company.

Josh Dennis, award-winning book designer and EVP of Creative at Crossway, has developed seven PubU sessions for industry design professionals. The PubU Design sessions will be led by award-winning illustrators and designers Don Clark, Dana Tanamachi, Tyler Deeb, Matt Stevens, Scotty Reifsnyder, Klaus Krogh, and a team of in-house designers at Crossway. Josh explains, “Each of our speakers have had a unique impact through their design work over the years. During their sessions they will share about their experiences in design and publishing, making the inherent connection between truth and beauty.” Held November 6-7 at Lipscomb University in Nashville, PubU is the industry’s premier networking and training event where industry professionals can choose among sessions in design, rights, marketing/publicity, editorial, reader engagement, and data/delivery/workflow.

Zondervan announced today a book contract with Jay DeMarcus, bassist, vocalist, pianist, producer and songwriter for the superstar vocal group Rascal Flatts.
