GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN — Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing Company has announced the completion of the Theological Dictionary of the Old Testament (TDOT).
TDOT is the English edition of the Theologisches Wörterbuch zum Alten Testament, published in German between 1973 and 2000. The encyclopedic volumes present in-depth discussions of the key Hebrew and Aramaic words in the Old Testament. Leading scholars of various religious traditions and from many parts of the world were carefully selected for each article by series editors G. Johannes Botterweck, Helmer Ringgren, and Heinz-Josef Fabry.
The illustrious series is now complete with the publication of an index to all sixteen previous volumes. Compiled by Ronald E. Pitkin, the volume comprises indexes of Hebrew words, Aramaic words, and references to the Old Testament and several other corpora of related literature.
“Eerdmans is delighted that TDOT is now fully available to the English-speaking world, and also easy to navigate and search owing to the arrival of the index,” says Eerdmans senior acquisitions editor Andrew Knapp. “TDOT has already served a generation of scholars, and we look forward to its continued use and impact on biblical studies for decades to come.”
