October 2025 | LISLE, IL—IVP Academic has announced the acquisition of rights to publish the Pillars of Christian Dogmatics series, edited by Matthew Barrett and Craig Carter. The series aims to provide in-depth theological studies on major topics within Christian theology, emphasizing the retrieval of classical, orthodox doctrines for the contemporary church.
“As the name suggests, this series is set to become a ‘pillar’ of theology for decades. We are thrilled to invest in the future of the field for this generation,” said acquiring editor Zach Gordon, associate academic editor at IVP.
IVP Academic has contracted twelve volumes for the Pillars of Christian Dogmatics series. Titles and authors include:
- J. V. Fesko, The Cathedral of Theology
- Samuel G. Parkison, Eschatology
- Stephen R. Holmes, The Perfections of God
- Adonis Vidu, The Christian Life
- Christopher Cleveland, Atonement
- Matthew Barrett, Christology
- D. Glenn Butner Jr., Virtue
- Harrison Perkins, Scripture
- Thaddeus J. Williams, Anthropology
- David VanDrunen, The Ordo Salutis
- Christopher Holmes, Trinity
- Craig Carter, Creation
“How rare it is to see a publisher launch a series that is serious about catholicity. Dogmatics steeped in modern theology has run its course. What we now need is a dogmatics that can answer the metaphysical challenges of our secular age,” Barrett said. “This task requires a team of theologians from across Christendom, all committed to the classical convictions of the creeds. The future of ecumenism is not fighting each other as we’ve done in the past, but standing side by side, even linking arms, so that together we can answer modern objections with dogmatic fervor. Who better to take up that torch than IVP Academic! I could not be more proud to be a series editor.”
Dr. Matthew Barrett is the founder and editor-in-chief of Credo Magazine and host of the Credo Podcast. He is also the director of the Center for Classical Theology. He is research professor of Christian theology at Trinity Anglican Seminary.
Dr. Craig A. Carter was appointed research professor of theology at Tyndale University in Toronto, Ontario, at the end of 2020. He continues as theologian in residence at Westney Heights Baptist Church in Ajax, Ontario, where he has served since 2008. He is an ordained minister in the Fellowship of Evangelical Baptist Churches of Canada.
