January 2026 | LISLE, IL—InterVarsity Press (IVP) will host a free, two-part webinar series on February 3 and 10 to help parents and caregivers thoughtfully engage the topic of Christian nationalism.
In recent years, Christian nationalism in the United States has become more prevalent, leading to a cultural climate marked by divisions and tense discussions around faith, identity, and politics. It can be difficult to navigate these issues ourselves, let alone figuring out how to engage our own families, communities, and kids.
In this two-part webinar series, trusted IVP authors will have conversations about what Christian nationalism is, the causes of its increased prevalence, and how it affects our communities, including the youngest among us.
“We are living in tumultuous times, and it’s difficult as a parent or caregiver to fully know how to best engage the topic of Christian nationalism within our families and communities. But nor can we ignore what is happening right before our eyes,” said Helen Lee, digital media strategist at IVP and moderator for the first webinar session. “I’m so grateful for our authors who can equip us on this topic through their thoughtful, Christ-centered expertise, as well as for the work that the Wholehearted Households team has done to produce these first live events. May they serve families and have lasting, positive impact for the good of the church.”
The first session, on February 3, 2026 at 7 p.m. Central, will focus on “Understanding Christian Nationalism in the United States.” This session will serve as a primer for understanding the broader scope of Christian nationalism: what it is, why it’s gaining popularity, and why it’s ultimately incompatible with Jesus’ teachings.
Guest expert Miranda Zapor Cruz, professor of historical theology at Indiana Wesleyan University and author of Faithful Politics, will first give a brief introduction to Christian nationalism, defining key terms and discussing its history and origins. Jonathan P. Walton will then help identify reasons for the rise of Christian nationalism and how different communities are currently responding. After these two presentations, Walton and Cruz will discuss with each other and answer questions.
Walton is a senior resource specialist for InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, focusing on political discipleship and civic engagement, and the author of five books, including Twelve Lies That Hold America Captive and Beauty and Resistance.
The second webinar is scheduled for February 10, 2026 at 7 p.m. Central on the topic of “Addressing Christian Nationalism with Our Families and Communities.” This conversation will touch on what to do when family members or communities disagree, how to tend to the spiritual lives of our kids when talking about Christian nationalism, and the need for intentional family discipleship through it all. This panel discussion will also allow for questions at the end and includes guest experts Lacy Finn Borgo, Caleb Campbell, and Christina Edmondson.
Borgo teaches and provides spiritual direction with adults and children through Renovaré, Mercy Center Burlingame, and the Companioning Center. She is the author of Spiritual Conversations with Children, Faith Like a Child, and All Will Be Well.
Campbell has been a pastor at Desert Springs Bible Church in Phoenix, Arizona, since 2006 and lead pastor since 2015. He is the author of Disarming Leviathan.
Edmondson is a higher education instructor and cohost of Get in The Word with Truth’s Table and the Truth’s Table podcasts. She is the coauthor with Chad Brennan of Faithful Antiracism and is a certified Cultural Intelligence facilitator.
