Carol Stream, Ill. — After a distinguished career spanning over 26 years in Christian nonfiction publishing, Executive Publisher Jan Long Harris will retire from Tyndale House Publishers, leaving a legacy of multiple imprints, New York Times bestselling authors, and category-defining titles that have shaped Christian publishing.
Harris oversaw and significantly expanded the scope of Tyndale’s nonfiction program, growing its reach and industry influence.
Over the course of her tenure, Harris launched and led multiple imprints, including SaltRiver, Tyndale Momentum, and later Tyndale Refresh. She also spearheaded BarnaBooks, a partnership imprint with the Barna organization that produced notable titles such as Revolution by George Barna, Pagan Christianity? by Frank Viola and George Barna, and Jim and Casper Go to Church by Jim Henderson and Matt Casper.
“Launching the Tyndale Refresh imprint was one of the great privileges of my career. I’ve always been drawn to the integration of Christian faith, health, and science—God’s desire for us to flourish in mind, body, and soul—and Refresh allowed us to explore that in meaningful ways,” said Harris. “It’s been deeply rewarding to see how readers have responded.”
Tyndale Refresh titles—including Anatomy of the Soul by Curt Thompson; Believing Is Seeing by Michael Guillen; multiple books by Dr. Daniel Amen, including Memory Rescue, The End of Mental Illness, and You, Happier; Try Softer by Aundi Kolber; and The Life-Changing Art of Self-Brain Surgery by Dr. Lee Warren—helped bring a distinctly faith-centered perspective into the broader health and wellness conversation.
Among the many memoirs and personal narratives she acquired and published are Quiet Strength by Tony Dungy with Nathan Whitaker—a #1 New York Times bestseller—along with multiple subsequent bestsellers; In the Presence of My Enemies by Gracia Burnham; Son of Hamas by Mosab Hassan Yousef; and A Heart for Freedom by Chai Ling. Additional notable titles include Believe It by Nick Foles and Winning Balance by Shawn Johnson.
“Jan’s contributions to Tyndale and the Christian publishing industry are immeasurable,” said Ron Beers, Chief Publishing Officer. “She has a remarkable ability to identify voices and messages that speak powerfully to both heart and mind. She has acquired and developed some of Tyndale’s most significant and successful titles. Just as importantly, she has mentored colleagues with generosity and intentionality. Tyndale will be stronger for generations because of the investment she has made in people.”
Since 1962, Tyndale House Publishers has positively impacted readers worldwide. Tyndale is one of the world’s largest independent Christian publishers, dedicated to making the Bible accessible in languages people relate to and understand. Tyndale publishes the New Living Translation (NLT) and other Bible translations, nonfiction books that offer Christ-centered insight, fiction that inspires, and children’s resources that help share God’s Word with the next generation. Tyndale’s independence enables it to honor its founding model through annual grants and donations to other charitable organizations around the world, totaling more than half of the funds generated through publishing operations.
