New devotional, You Are a Child of God, encourages women to live in the freedom, joy and security of God’s family
Many women say they feel distant from God as they struggle with loneliness, doubt, and insecurities. Our culture loudly asserts, “Believe in yourself, and you will thrive!” Yet God’s voice is louder, reminding us that a Mighty One is in our midst—a God who saves because we cannot save ourselves. When we focus on our identity as daughters of God, he brings comfort in grief, assurance in doubt, and a renewed way of living like nothing else can.
In You Are a Child of God: Devotions for Living Your Grace-Filled Identity, Katie Polski helps readers understand their grace-filled identity as adopted children of God and live out this gospel truth in daily life. As children of God, we are no longer slaves to fear and are set free from condemnation; we can find purpose in suffering and have confidence in a promised future with him. As these truths take root, they transform the way we relate to others and to our heavenly Father.“
Both of my parents passed away by the time I was thirty-six. As grief settled after my mother died, I slowly came to grips with the life-altering reality that I was now an orphan. It’s disconcerting, even as an adult, to not have a mother or father in this life,” Polski shares. “But in my grief as an orphan, the musical notes of being God’s child gradually filled my heart with beautiful, comforting tones—the same song for every believer in Jesus Christ—‘The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exult over you with loud singing’ (Zephaniah 3:17).”
This verse from Zephaniah provides the central theme for the eight-week study. Each week explores a related topic, including the assurance of salvation, the freedom and safety believers receive in place of fear, and the intimate relationship they enjoy with their Father. Readers then move into what it means to have a Spirit-filled life, the privileges of being coheirs with Christ, and God’s purposes in pain. The final weeks offer hope in our eternal inheritance and joy in belonging to God’s forever family.“
By union with Christ through faith, which the Holy Spirit works in us, we are justified by grace alone, adopted by the Father, and brought into God’s family as his sons and daughters. The effects of being God’s children reach far and wide, and as we grasp the profundity of what it means to be brought into his family, it changes everything. We have intimacy with the God of the universe, and we are led, taught, comforted, and empowered by the Holy Spirit,” Polski writes. “As we delve into these gospel truths, may our Father’s singing fill our spiritual ears with notes of comfort, assurance, love, and peace. It is a beautiful melody, and it’s written for all who live in the family of God.”
Each of the forty days in You Are a Child of God follows an easy-to-follow format of a Scripture reading, devotional reflection, and simple application questions and is suitable for individuals or small groups. Every week ends with a challenge to share what they learned that week with someone in their lives.
This beautifully designed devotional is part of the Gospel Truth for Women series, which helps women to identify their struggles, go to Scripture to meet God, then share those truths with family, friends, neighbors, and coworkers. Devotionals by Trish Donohue, Aimee Joseph, Nana Dolce, Abi Byrd, and Joanna Kimbrel are now available with a future release by Kristie Anyabwile coming in 2027. The devotions are relatable for busy women of all ages and stages, making a great gift as well.
