(August 24, 2017) — Tyndale House Publishers is pleased to announce that Love, Lexi: Letters to God, by Sherry Kyle recently received the Cascade Award for Young Adult/Middle Grade Fiction Book at the Oregon Christian Writers Conference. According to the Oregon Christian Writers’ website, the purpose of the Cascade Writing Contest is to “reward excellent writing and to encourage both seasoned and emerging writers.”
Titles submitted for consideration are judged in ten categories, including story elements such as opening hooks and believable and relatable characters, fresh and original writing that demonstrates the author’s voice, and well-developed and differentiated characters. Importantly, books are also judged upon the inclusion of a spiritual thread that is natural to the story and appropriate for the Christian market.
Kyle’s Love, Lexi follows seventh grader Alexis Dawn Cooper (Lexi) as she navigates both middle school and being a middle child. But, given the format of this book, it is no ordinary middle-school novel. Love, Lexi is a unique combination of a fictional story combined with a devotional and journal, allowing readers to watch Lexi learn to seek God first, above all else, while writing their own letters to God. Love, Lexi draws young people into Lexi’s life as they contemplate their own place in God’s eyes.
