NEW YORK TIMES FEB. 19 BESTSELLER LIST AT #9 FOR SMALLEST SPOT OF A DOT: The Little Ways We’re Different, The Big Ways We’re the Same
New York, February 20, 2023 – The latest book from Emmy award-winning ABC News Anchor Linsey Davis hit the Feb. 19 New York Times bestseller list at #9 for Children’s Picture Books. Her new book, The Smallest Spot of a Dot, released January 31, 2023. The new release is her fifth children’s book, following previous bestselling titles The World Is Awake; One Big Heart: A Celebration of Being More Alike than Different; Stay This Way Forever and How High is Heaven? This is her first time appearing on the list. The newest book was co-written with children’s book author Michael Tyler.
Linsey made appearances on ABC’s Nightline, GMA 3 What You Need to Know, The View, Live with Kelly & Ryan, Good Morning America Weekend in addition to other shows to talk about her book, which began with her fascination studying the Human Genome Project.
This playful and unique topic for a picture book celebrates how we are all part of the human race. Davis desired to make the concept of genes simple enough to understand in “dot” form for young children. The Smallest Spot of a Dot is a story of connection and equality – recognizing people’s similarities and their uniqueness.
The book begins by stating: “Only .1% of our genes make us uniquely who we are. We are 99.9% identical, alike, the same – equal. This book is 100% about that truth.” Davis dedicates the book to her young son Ayden, “and the infinite possibilities of his me-my-mine dot.”
“It’s a curious thing, the way that it seems,
That we’re so much alike because of our genes.”
The co-author is writer and speaker Michael Tyler (author of The Skin You’re In); the illustrator is Lucy Fleming. Fleming also illustrated Davis’ previous four books.
The Smallest Spot of a Dot features charming illustrations by bestselling artist Lucy Fleming.
