Tyndale House Publishers presents ‘The Christian Basics Bible NLT™,’ a “best of” take on the traditional study Bible

October 2, 2017 by Sheri Toomb

Carol Steam, Ill. (September 22, 2017)—Tyndale House Publishers announces the release of The Christian Basics Bible NLT™, an innovative edition designed to foster the spiritual growth of Christians who may be longtime believers, but who have hit a plateau in their faith. Featuring the New Living Translation, The Christian Basics Bible is a “best of” approach to the study Bible, replacing potential information overload with a clear focus on key foundational topics. The Christian Basics Bible was released on September 5, 2017.

The Christian Basics Bible was produced to address the issue of spiritual stagnation, a major issue facing the Christian church in America today. While millions of American adults identify themselves as Christians, very few read the Bible regularly, even among those who attend church consistently. Unfortunately, many of those who do read the Bible still don’t have a correct understanding of some of the most fundamental truths in Scripture. For example, while about two-thirds of Americans believe Jesus is God, half say Jesus is a being created by God, according to Scott McConnell, executive director of LifeWay Research.[1]

With this spiritual climate in mind, The Christian Basics Bible was produced to help believers learn the essentials necessary for a vibrant and mature Christian faith. Striking a unique balance between information and application, The Christian Basics Bible affirms Tyndale’s goal of making the Bible accessible rather than overwhelming. Key features include a detailed topical index on basic Christian truths and over 500 Foundation Notes, designed to help readers connect biblical teachings to Christian beliefs and to see how those beliefs apply to their lives.

To learn more about The Christian Basics Bible, visit Tyndale.com, or call Evie Polsley at 1-855-277-5132.

Tyndale House Publishers, founded in 1962, is the world’s largest held Christian publisher of books, Bibles, and digital media. Tyndale has privately published many New York Times bestsellers. The largest portion of its profit goes to the nonprofit Tyndale House Foundation, which makes grants to help meet the physical and spiritual needs of people around the world. Tyndale was founded to publish Living Letters, which later comprised part of The Living Bible, a contemporary paraphrase of the Bible that became a global publishing phenomenon. Tyndale now publishes the Holy Bible, New Living Translation (NLT), the translation of choice for millions of people.

‘Like a River from Its Course’ garners multiple honors

October 2, 2017 by Sheri Toomb

GRAND RAPIDS, MI – Like a River from Its Course by Kelli Stuart has won a 2017 Carol Award, given by the American Christian Fiction Writers (ACFW). Stuart’s debut novel beat out two other finalists to be named the winner in the historical category.

The Carol Awards honor the best Christian fiction published by traditional publishing houses in the previous calendar year. Winners were announced at a ceremony on September 23, where Stuart accepted the award, which also honored Kregel editors Dawn Anderson and Janyre Tromp.

Like a River from Its Course is also a finalist in two categories for the Christy Awards. The Christy Awards, presented by the Evangelical Christian Publishers Association (ECPA), recognize excellence in the art of Christian fiction. With finalists named in nine categories, Stuart’s novel stands out as the only finalist in two categories: first novel and historical fiction.

The winners for the Christy Award will be announced November 8 at a ceremony hosted by ECPA.

Critically acclaimed by both Library Journal and Publishers Weekly, Like a River from Its Course is an epic novel exposing the ugliness of war and the beauty of hope, based on true stories gathered from fifteen years of research and interviews with Ukrainian World War II survivors. It is a story of love, war, heartache, forgiveness, and redemption.

Kregel Publications is an evangelical Christian publisher that aims to develop and distribute—with integrity and excellence—trusted, biblically based resources that lead individuals to know and serve Jesus Christ.

Finding Gobi becomes an international bestseller

October 2, 2017 by Sheri Toomb

Dion Leonard hits several bestseller lists in the US, Canada, and UK – including the New York Times

(Nashville, Tenn.) September 26, 2017 – The wildly successful memoir Finding Gobi, a part of a HarperCollins Global Publishing Project, has become an international bestseller.

In the United States Finding Gobi, which was released in June, has made its way to the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Publishers Weekly, UK Sunday Times and bestseller lists in Australia New Zealand and USA Today bestseller lists. The book has been various best seller lists for 12 weeks and counting.

Finding Gobi is a memoir based on an international news story, centered around Dion Leonard, an ultramarathoner who befriends a stray dog in China’s harsh Gobi Desert. The young dog, who later earned the name “Gobi,” proved that what she lacked in size, she more than made up for in heart as she went step for step with Dion over the Tian Shan Mountains, across massive sand dunes, through yurt villages, and past the black sands of the Gobi Desert, keeping pace with him for nearly 80 miles of the 155-mile race.

Before Dion could take her home, Gobi went missing in the sprawling Chinese city where she was being kept. With the help of strangers and a viral, global outpouring of assistance on the internet, he tracked her down, reuniting forever with the amazing animal that changed his life and has captured the hearts of millions worldwide. The impact and inspiration from this story has led to the development of a movie with Twentieth Century Fox Film. Paul de Souza, who discovered the story after it became a viral internet sensation, is producing and shepherding the project.

In addition to the adult trade book, additional products have been developed to include a young reader’s edition as well as a children’s picture book out on August 29th. A board book, Finding Gobi for Little Ones, will release in February 2018. In addition to the book already released in English and Spanish in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom; Finding Gobi will be published in Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, German, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Swedish, and Vietnamese.

Dion Leonard is a 42-year-old Australian who lives in Edinburgh, Scotland, with his wife Lucja. Dion has not only completed but competed in some of the world’s toughest ultra-marathons across the planet’s most inhospitable landscapes. This includes running across the brutal Moroccan Sahara Desert twice in the 250km Marathon Des Sables and also twice across South Africa’s Kalahari Desert, also 250km.

Louie Giglio writes first children’s devotional, Indescribable: 100 Devotions About God and Science

October 2, 2017 by Sheri Toomb

New devotional makes Giglio’s sermon series for adults applicable to kids

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Sept. 26, 2017) — Since 1997, Louie Giglio, pastor and founder of Passion City Church, has gathered collegiate-aged young people in spiritual events across the United States and around the world. These events have opened young believers’ eyes to the wonders of God’s creation and His love. Now, Giglio encourages children of all ages to expand their faith with his first children’s book, Indescribable: 100 Devotions About God and Science (Oct. 10, 2017).

With more than one million social media followers between his personal accounts and those affiliated with Passion, Giglio has grown a platform of more than just college students–reaching pastors, parents, and adults around the world. Indescribable makes the information from his faith-changing series of the same name, geared toward adults years ago, applicable to a new generation. Each devotion includes Scripture, a story, an application, a prayer, and a fascinating science section (some sections have experiments that kids can do at home!) to keep kids engaged and curious about the fusion of faith and science topics.

“There is so much to learn about what God has created—about the earth, space, our bodies, and the weather,” said Giglio. “It’s awe-inspiring! Each devotional teaches children about the coolest parts of God’s creation and will encourage kids to grow in their faith in the Creator himself. We explore the facts and learn how incredible it is that the designer of it all knows us by name. He loves us, he cares for us, and to know that is a joy that is truly indescribable.”

Indescribable is a resource for faith and science to come together in a conversation, because no question is too big for God.

About Louie Giglio:
Louie Giglio is pastor of Passion City Church and founder of the Passion movement, which exists to call a generation to leverage their lives for the fame of Jesus.

In addition to the collegiate gatherings of Passion Conferences, Louie and his wife, Shelley, lead the teams at Passion City Church, sixstepsrecords, and the Passion Global Institute. October 2, 2017 by Sheri Toomb

Carol Steam, Ill. (September 28, 2017) — NavPress announces an updated edition of Jerry Bridges’s classic study of grace-motivated discipleship, Transforming Grace.
