WHEATON, Ill.—Crossway is pleased to announce the launch of an initiative with the goal of distributing one million English Standard Version (ESV) Bibles around the world. These Bibles will be provided to Christians in places of great need with distribution beginning in 2023.
While Bibles are easily accessible in the Western world, the same cannot be said about other places around the globe. An estimated 11 million church leaders in the Global South (Africa, Latin America, and Asia) lack access to proper biblical training and resources.[1] Further, many communities do not have the infrastructure—or market—available to sustain the long-term distribution of Bibles at locally affordable prices.
By partnering with churches, ministry networks, and other organizations in the Global South, Crossway’s goal is to provide a personal copy of the Word of God to 1 million Christians who might otherwise not have access to their own Bibles.
“God’s Word is the most important treasure we could give,” says Randy Jahns, Crossway’s senior vice president of global ministry. “Our prayer is that each Bible provided will help a Christian grow in his or her faith and be equipped to teach and lead others. We pray that churches and families will be blessed and strengthened, for God’s glory alone.”
In the first phase of this ambitious project, Crossway is seeking to raise $500,000 by December 31, 2022, in order to distribute the first 100,000 Bibles to Christians in the Global South.
