July 14, 2025 by Sheri Toomb

AVAILABLE SEPTEMBER 8, 2025

The third book in the Comfort for Children in Hard Times series, addressing difficult experiences that children commonly face and offering gospel hope and help, A Big Change Happened: Helping Children Through Upheaval by Darby A. Strickland will release September 8 by New Growth Press.

A Big Change Happened helps children who are facing a move, starting a new school, or adjusting to a new family dynamic process their feelings through the story of Wallace the whale.

Wallace Whale loves his home in the warm blue sea near the green island where he and Mama sing, eat, sleep, and play. But one day, Mama tells him about a big change—they’re leaving for a long journey North! Wallace is worried and has so many questions: What will the North be like? Will he be okay? As they swim into the unknown, Mama gently reminds Wallace: Wherever you go, whatever you do, God’s love follows you.

Counselor Darby A. Strickland uses the story of Wallace along with Psalm 139 to help parents and caregivers walk with children through big changes and the questions that come with those changes. A special section at the end of the book helps parents and caregivers guide their children through accepting their new situation and uses biblical truths to reassure children that God’s love never changes.

Unmaking Mary goes on sale from Hodder Faith on July 8, 2025

July 7, 2025 by Sheri Toomb

“A deeply valuable reflection on motherhood.” ―Rowan Williams

In this part-memoir, part social and theological commentary,Chine McDonald deconstructs the myth of perfect motherhood and shines a light on the darker side of parenting. From birth trauma to post-natal depression, from infertility to the mental load, the motherhood penalty and pressures on women to be it all and have it all, this book aims to liberate motherhood from the chains in which it has been placed, reconstructing a more authentic, grace-filled way forward for the most important job in the world.

God is Not a White Man author Chine McDonald lifts the lid on the reality of becoming a mum in the 21st Century, exploring how motherhood has been shaped by historical, theological and social understandings of what it is to be a woman and a mother.

For two thousand years, the Virgin Mary has been depicted throughout art, literature and culture as symbolising the perfect mother: chaste, beautiful, meek, mild and white. These supposed virtues and symbols have penetrated not just Christianity but wider popular culture; and contributed to harmful views about motherhood and what it is to be a woman.

Chine McDonald says: “This book will require me to delve deep into the dark heart of motherhood, critiquing the shiny, saccharine and chaste ideals that leave no room for imperfections. It will not be easy, but I hope and pray through telling the truth about motherhood and what it is to be a woman – warts and all – we’ll uncover the beauty that exists in unexpected places. I’m honoured to have been trusted with so many women’s stories as part of this project, and I hope that it might free us all from the shame, chains and judgment that society – and the Church – place on all of us, including those entrusted with the most important job in the world.”

Unmaking Mary includes a foreword written by Beth Allison Barr, author of The Making of Biblical Womanhood.

“Astute, smart, witty and brave. A radical, deeply thoughtful and essential intervention”
―Lucy Jones, author of Matrescence

Unmaking Mary: Shattering the Myth of Perfect Motherhood
Chine McDonald | Hodder Faith | 8 July 2025 Hardcover | $22.99 | 272 pp | ISBN: 9781399814638

Chine McDonald read Theology at Cambridge University before training as a newspaper journalist. She is director of religion and society think tank Theos, and is a regular contributor to BBC Religion & Ethics programmes, including Thought for the Day, the Daily Service, and Prayer for the Day. Chine is also the author of Am I Beautiful? and God Is Not a White Man.

Minno launches first-ever American Sign Language Bible Series for Kids

July 7, 2025 by Sheri Toomb

Christian kids’ streaming leader breaks barriers in accessibility with ASL Bible episodes; expands Spanish and Portuguese content

Minno will launch American Sign Language (ASL) versions of “Laugh and Grow Bible for Kids” on August 8, 2025

NASHVILLE, Tenn., July 1, 2025 —  Minno, the #1 source of Christian content for kids, announces it will launch American Sign Language (ASL) versions of its flagship series, “Laugh and Grow Bible for Kids,” on August 8, 2025, taking groundbreaking steps in its mission to help kids experience Jesus every day, in every way. The children’s streaming platform developed the ASL programming in partnership with Bridge Multimedia, which has previously worked with PBS Kids and Google.

“We’re building the most accessible Christian kids’ media platform in the world,” said Erick Goss, CEO and Co-founder of Minno. “To our knowledge, this is the first time a Bible series for kids has ever been created in American Sign Language—and it’s just the beginning. Every child deserves the chance to experience the Gospel of Jesus Christ in the way they learn best—whether through ASL, their native language, or as a story at bedtime. No other platform is delivering faith-based content for kids at this scale or quality.”

Minno is also expanding its Spanish language offerings, which were recently added to the platform, and will soon include Portuguese. This fall, Minno will also launch the original series “Guillermo & Will,” a dual-language Spanish-English preschool series created by Emmy-nominated puppeteer Donna Kimball. Spanish-language content consistently ranks in the platform’s top 10 most-watched programming on YouTube.

The flagship series “Laugh and Grow Bible for Kids,” which currently includes 42 episodes and three 30-minute specials, continues to expand with several new features and formats including the Spanish and Portuguese language versions, a new “In the Beginning” special, several new episodes including “Daniel and the Lions,” “The Book of Songs,” and “The Family of Jesus,” American Sign Language (ASL) versions (launching Aug 8) and audio-only versions designed for bedtime, car trips and screen-free time.

Recent content additions to the platform include fan-favorite, “The Dead Sea Squirrels” from VeggieTales co-creator Mike Nawrocki, and Minno’s new originals “Micah,” “Suni the Super Unicorn,” and “God’s Greenhouse” from KidMin creator Areo Keller Donahue, whose new special “God’s Greenhouse Get Ready for Bed Special” will launch September 5.

Over the past year (2024-2025), Minno has seen incredible growth of its streaming platform and YouTube channel, positioning it as today’s leading faith-based family content platform. Significant milestones include:

  • Triple-digit membership growth for the com subscription-video-on-demand (SVOD) platform, propelling it into the top 1% of direct-to-consumer subscription companies.
  • YouTube: One million subscribers on YouTube (150% year-over-year growth), 122 million views in the past 12 months, placing Minno in top .06% of most subscribed channels on YouTube.

“This expansion is just the beginning for Minno,” said Goss. “We believe the opportunity to reach kids with high-quality Christian content during the most formative window of their lives is massive—and we’re called to meet it. We’re building a global library of faith-filled stories shaped by theologians, child development experts, children’s media specialists, and Emmy-nominated Christian creators. Our goal is nothing short of setting a new standard for what kids’ faith-based content can be—and making it accessible to families around the world.”

ASL versions of Laugh and Grow Bible for Kids will be available exclusively on Minno starting August 8, 2025. Families can sign up today at GoMinno.com

Evangelical Press Association assumes Magazine Training International online training program

July 7, 2025 by Sheri Toomb

(COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado)—With the planned fall retirement of Founder Sharon Mumper, the comprehensive online training program and resource-rich website of Magazine Training International (MTI) have been assumed by the Evangelical Press Association (EPA).

The two organizations have reached an agreement for EPA to assume responsibility for and continuation of the online training program and online resources previously provided by MTI.

Through an asset transfer agreement, EPA has become owner of the magazinetraining.com website and all its digital training resources. EPA will adopt the Magazine Training International tradename and trademark as a DBA of EPA, operating it as a separate division of EPA.

With a shared vision to encourage, strengthen, and provide training and resources to Christian magazine publishers, EPA and MTI have been ministry partners since 2015. So, it was a natural choice for EPA to carry the ministry into the future.

“Years ago, EPA Director Lamar Keener shared with us his vision for continued education for Christians in magazine publishing,” says MTI President and Founder Sharon Mumper. “Since then, we have worked together to provide professional training for EPA constituents in North America and our international colleagues. I’m thrilled this high-quality instruction will continue to be available to Christians in publishing worldwide.”

MTI was founded in 1989 to provide training and resources to Eastern Europe’s new Christian publishers after the fall of communism. The ministry expanded to the countries of the former Soviet Union in 1996, to Southeast Asia in 2000, and West Asia in 2011. In 2018, MTI began to offer training In both anglophone and francophone Africa.

Since 1989, more than 70 onsite conferences have been offered in some 20 countries worldwide. In 1999, MTI began to offer five magazine publishing courses with course manuals and in 2019 a comprehensive textbook. DVD courses were added in 2008, and in 2013 MTI began to offer online training, including live workshops, four-to-eight-week trainer-led courses, ebooks, and training videos. Since then, thousands of people from more than 100 countries have taken part in the online training program more than 10,000 times.

“I am both humbled and grateful for this opportunity to continue the legacy of MTI as a vital resource for Christian magazine publishers worldwide,” says Keener.

MTI Communications Director Jennifer Howard, who has been largely responsible for MTI’s online program, will continue to direct the program.

EPA will also collaborate with Media Associates International (MAI) to provide magazine training for their triennial LittWorld conferences held around the world.

“The MTI board is grateful that the training ministry of MTI can continue to equip publishers around the world to reach their cultures with the Good News,” says MTI Board Chair Carla Foote.

“This agreement represents a powerful step forward for Christian publishing,” says Dwight Widaman, EPA board president. “By combining the strengths of EPA and MTI, we’re not only preserving a legacy but also expanding EPA’s commitment to support and inspire publishers in a rapidly changing media landscape.”

While EPA and MTI received grant funding for this transition,  they encourage those with a heart for equipping Christian communicators around the world to continue donations through magazinetraining.com to support the future of digital training and online resources.

About Magazine Training International
Magazine Training International’s mission is to encourage, strengthen, and provide training and resources to Christian magazine publishers as they seek to build the church and reach their societies for Christ. MTI serves Christians in under-resourced countries who often have little or no experience in publishing, but are strongly motivated to publish, and want to make their magazines stable and effective. About Evangelical Press Association

Founder of Million Praying Moms Brooke McGlothlin steps down and Whitaker House steps up in new partnership along with new leader Nicolet Bell

Whitaker House is excited to announce their acquisition of Million Praying Moms (MPM), a ministry providing long-time encouragement and support for mothers. A community built from scratch by founder and author Brooke McGlothlin, the site offers an array of resources, such as their popular podcast, books, ebooks, and courses on prayer. Whitaker Corporation, which has been creating and distributing Christian resources for over fifty years, has already been partnering with MPM on their successful line of Everyday Prayers books.

In response to stepping down and passing the mantle to Nicolet Bell and Whitaker House, McGlothin said, “For over a decade, Million Praying Moms has helped thousands of moms make prayer a priority for their families, teaching them that it is not a last resort, but the first and best response to the challenges of motherhood. Leading women to be praying moms has been one of the greatest privileges of my life. I am filled with hope and confidence in the team God has brought together to move Million Praying Moms forward and can’t wait to see the continued fruit of this important ministry.”

Rising into Brooke’s role as the new head is Nicolet Bell, CEO of JourneyWise. “I am excited to continue Brooke’s incredible legacy she has built with Million Praying Moms,” says Bell. “I am grateful for the opportunity and expectant for God to continue to use this ministry to encourage moms in prayer as they face the challenges of parenting. We have partnered with Million Praying Moms in order to keep the heartbeat of this community beating strong.”

IVP’s “Preaching in a New Key” shortlisted for Australian Christian Book of the Year Award

July 7, 2025 by Sheri Toomb

July 2025 | LISLE, IL—InterVarsity Press (IVP) is excited to announce that Preaching in a New Key has been selected as one of the ten finalists for the annual Australian Christian Book of the Year Award.

The Australian Christian Book of the Year Award recognizes excellence in Christian writing by an Australian citizen. Candidates are judged according to the work’s original nature, literary style, design, and contribution made. Winners will be announced during the SparkLit Awards night in Melbourne on August 21, 2025.

Preaching in a New Key: Crafting Expository Sermons in Post-Christian Communities teaches expository preaching integrated with creativity, cultural discernment, pastoral health, justice, missiology, and more. Scholar and pastor Mark R. Glanville provides a fresh look into the art of crafting sermons for post-Christian contexts.

“Designed to make faith plausible to a new generation of listeners whose values are disconnected from the church, this book seeks to create communities of witness that are attuned to shifting cultures,” said Sarah Travis, Ewart Professor of the Practice of Ministry and Faith Formation at Knox College, University of Toronto. “This preaching is holistic and integrated, seeking to nurture the health of the preacher and the body of Christ. Concerned with beauty and justice, Glanville’s approach to expository preaching will nourish our shared life.”

Glanville (PhD) currently works as the Director of the Centre for Missional Leadership at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, and is the author of five books. He has pastored in creative, justice-seeking churches for fourteen years in both Canada and Australia and has played jazz piano professionally for thirty years. Through a variety of lenses, Glanville shows how the Bible is forming churches that extend the tenderness of Jesus in their particular neighborhoods.

Revive Our Hearts, Holman Bibles partner in a notetaking edition to encourage women in Bible journaling

July 7, 2025 by Sheri Toomb

BRENTWOOD, Tenn.—Revive Our Hearts and Holman Bible Publishers have partnered to create a new Christian Standard Bible (CSB) notetaking edition to encourage women to incorporate journaling in their study of God’s Word.

The “CSB Notetaking Bible, Revive Our Hearts Edition” was inspired by the journaling experience of Nancy Demoss Wolgemuth, Revive Our Hearts founder, after a friend gave her a CSB Notetaking Bible in 2018.

“That Bible was my faithful companion on what became a five-year journey through God’s Word,” said Wolgemuth. “As I journaled through Scripture, soaking in each chapter and verse, I developed a deep appreciation for the readability and faithfulness of this translation, and eventually it became my primary go-to for personal study and teaching.”

Revive Our Hearts is a global ministry helping women to find freedom, fullness and fruitfulness in Christ. Through decades of ministry, Wolgemuth has shared the message of heart revival and biblical womanhood through daily teaching, resources, events such as True Woman conferences, and digital and broadcast outreaches.

“The CSB team and Revive Our Hearts share a commitment to God’s Word and a conviction of its transformational power,” said Andy McLean, publisher for Holman Bibles. “It’s an honor to partner with this ministry in this notetaking edition and to encourage believers as they journal through their discipleship journey.”

For those who use the new notetaking Bible, Wolgemuth said she hopes it will “become a means of fresh growth in your walk with Christ, the living Word.”

The “CSB Notetaking Bible, Revive Our Hearts Edition,” will be released July 15. The edition features prayers and encouragement written by Wolgemuth, along with tips for Bible journaling and a one-year Bible reading plan.

“What an amazing journey it was for me to journal through the Bible—and still is today, as I continue to steep in God’s Word, line upon line, day after day. So rich. Encouraging. Practical. Life-giving and life-transforming,” said Wolgemuth. “But this journey, this happy place, is not just for Bible teachers, authors or lifelong students of God’s Word. Wherever you may be in your spiritual pilgrimage, it is available for you.”

The Good Book Company launches new, easy-to-read devotionals designed for accessibility

July 7, 2025 by Sheri Toomb

CHARLOTTE, NC – The Good Book Company is excited to announce the new Plain and Simple Devotional series, created to serve those who find reading a challenge. Explore the Life of Jesus and Explore the Life of Jonah will release simultaneously (The Good Book Company, July 2025).

Author Christine Dalton was inspired to create these devotionals by a friend at church who struggled with literacy. Intended to serve those who find reading difficult for one of a variety of reasons, each devotion is only 2 pages long and features clear, concise language. Particular care has been taken with text legibility, and points are made in short sentences instead of longer paragraphs.

Dave Deuel, Senior Research Fellow Emeritus at The Joni Eareckson Tada Disability Research Center, says of the series, “At last, accessibility-sensitive discipleship materials that include all who seek a closer relationship with the Lord. No one should be excluded from spiritual growth or church life.”

The Good Book Company hopes this unique series of devotionals will succeed in its aim to make daily Bible reading inclusive and accessible. Literacy ministries, English-as-a-Second-Language ministries, and other ministries serving those who may find long, heavy reading difficult will benefit from using and distributing these resources.

ABOUT THE GOOD BOOK COMPANY
Founded in 1991, The Good Book Company (TGBC) is an international Christian publisher. Their Bible studies, books, devotionals, videos, tracts, evangelistic courses, and training materials are used throughout the English-speaking world, and in translation in over 35 languages worldwide. Everyone at TGBC is passionate about the Lord Jesus, His word, His church, and His gospel of grace. They create and publish biblical, relevant, and accessible resources that will encourage Christians to keep going, keep growing, and keep sharing their faith.
