WHEATON, Ill.—Crossway is pleased to announce that both “Digital Liturgies: Rediscovering Christian Wisdom in an Online Age” (Crossway, September 2023) by Samuel D. James and “Knowing God’s Truth: An Introduction to Systematic Theology” (Crossway, May 2023) by Jon Nielson have won 2024 Christian Book Awards in their respective categories from the Evangelical Christian Publishers Association (ECPA).
Justin Taylor, Crossway’s executive vice president of book publishing, writes, “It’s gratifying to see these works by Samuel James and Jon Nielson recognized. It’s hard to think of many topics more pressing and relevant than what they address: Digital Liturgies offers insightful biblical wisdom from a tech-realist perspective on how patterns of online life shape and interact with our deepest desires, and Knowing God’s Truth seeks to equip the next generation with a guide for thinking God’s thoughts after him so that young readers can grow into good theologians as faithful Christians. What a joy to publish such competent and compelling works that meet the needs of God’s people!”
Digital Liturgies tied for the award in the Faith and Culture category. This accessible book by Samuel D. James exposes five “digital liturgies” that prohibit people from contemplating big truths, accepting the uncomfortable, and acknowledging God as their Creator. It then calls readers to live faithfully before Christ, finding wisdom through Scripture and rest in God’s perfect design.
Knowing God’s Truth, winner in the Ministry Resources category, is written by pastor Jon Nielson as part of Crossway’s Theology Basics series, to make systematic theology clear, meaningful, and practical for those looking for a highly accessible guide to studying God. In this introduction, Nielson defines systematic theology as “theological study done in a highly organized, topical way” and covers the twelve basic categories—Scripture, man, sin, church, and more. He also helps readers learn to apply theology in their everyday lives by integrating invitations to pray and meditate on what they’ve learned.
According to the ECPA’s website, the Christian Book Award® program recognizes the highest quality in Christian books and Bibles in twelve categories, and is the oldest and among the most prestigious awards programs in the religious publishing industry.
