“Feathers of Hope” shortlisted for 2022 Christian Resources Together (CRT) Fiction Book of the Year

August 15, 2022 by Sheri Toomb

WESTMONT, IL—Christian Resources Together (CRT) has released the finalists for its 2022 awards, and IVP is pleased to announce that Feathers of Hope by Sharon Garlough Brown is one of three books shortlisted for the CRT Fiction Book of the Year.

CRT, based in England, provides support, fellowship, training, and business opportunities for those working within the United Kingdom Christian retail and supply trade. Winners of the 2022 CRT Awards will be announced on October 13 at an awards celebration at Sandown Park in Surrey, England. Winners will also be featured in CRT’s Together magazine.

Feathers of Hope details the story of Wren Crawford and her great-aunt, Katherine Rhodes, who prove to be companions in both sorrow and hope. In this sequel to Shades of Light and Remember Me, fans of the Sensible Shoes Series will not only be able to attend Katherine’s final retreat sessions at New Hope but will also encounter old and new friends along the way.

Elizabeth Musser, author of The Swan House and The Dwelling Place, said, “In Feathers of Hope, Sharon Garlough Brown brilliantly portrays mental illness in a gentle and heartbreaking way as young Wren continues on her path toward healing from deep depression. We also glimpse the bare humanity of Wren’s great-aunt and housemate, Katherine Rhodes, as she navigates her impending retirement from directing the New Hope Retreat Center. Feathers of Hope tells a story of shedding the old to bring forth the new, giving hope to all of us who are confronted with our deep humanity and sinfulness after days or decades of our own sacred journey. A poignant, deeply personal, and relevant story for such a time as this.”

Sharon Garlough Brown is a spiritual director, speaker, and cofounder of Abiding Way Ministries, providing spiritual formation retreats and resources. She is the author of the bestselling Sensible Shoes Series, which includes spiritual fiction novels Sensible Shoes, Two Steps Forward, Barefoot, An Extra Mile, and their study guides. A graduate of Princeton Theological Seminary, Brown has served on the pastoral staff of congregations in Scotland, Oklahoma, England, and most recently West Michigan, where she copastored with her husband, Jack, for many years. In March 2013 her book Sensible Shoes was named one of television personality Kathie Lee Gifford’s “favorite things.”

Voting for the CRT Awards is overseen by Christian Resources Together (CRT) in conjunction with the Booksellers Association-Christian Booksellers Group (BA-CBG), the Christian Suppliers Group (CSG), Kingsway CLC Trust (KCLCT), and Eden.co.uk together with suppliers and retailers.

The Good Book Company to publish 100th issue of “Explore” Bible notes

August 15, 2022 by Sheri Toomb

CHARLOTTE, NC – The Good Book Company celebrates its 25th year of publishing Explore Bible notes. The 100th issue of this quarterly publication will be released in September 2022.

This daily devotional, which was a foundational product in the early years of The Good Book Company, has included contributions from esteemed Bible teachers like Tim Keller, Albert Mohler, Rachel Jones, and Michael Kruger. The notes are available in print and through the Explore app.

Tim Thornborough, the editor of Explore and founder of The Good Book Company, says about the anniversary:

“It’s good to celebrate milestones, but to look back with humility and gratitude at what God has done for us, in us, and through us. Explore notes started when an ordinary local church pastor approached us and asked for help to continue something that he had started by writing and publishing plain-speaking, well-applied Bible notes to encourage young Christians from a summer camp he ran.

Now 100 issues later, these quarterly Bible notes are used around the world on paper and in digital form by 20,000 or more people every day as they search the Scriptures and respond to the voice of God as he speaks to them through his living word. What a privilege it is to write and edit material that speaks into that intimate space where people commune with God, search for guidance, and pour out their heartfelt needs before the Lord in prayer.”

For media inquiries and access to promotional assets, contact: publicity@thegoodbook.com.

Charisma House releases “From Horror to Hope” by global leaders of anti-trafficking organization

August 15, 2022 by Sheri Toomb

Global Leaders of Anti-Trafficking Organization Share Astonishing, Gritty Reality of Ministry and Liberation for Women and Children Trapped in Human Trafficking

Lake Mary, FL— Anti-trafficking organization members from Project Rescue are sharing their story and the testimonials of those whose lives have been changed in the book, From Horror to Hope: Inspiring Stories of Project Rescue and a Global Movement to Bring Freedom to Survivors of Sexual Exploitation (ISBN 978-1-63641-148-4, Charisma House). The book, written by Project Rescue co-founders David and Beth Grant, and Jonathan and Jennifer Barratt, CEO of Project Rescue Foundation and executive director of Project Rescue respectively, detail how this unconventional, diverse group of people came together to put an end to the exploitation of women and children in some of the most desolate and underserved areas of the world in both Southern Asia and Europe.

Over the past 25 years, Project Rescue’s leaders have given their lives completely over to the cause of ending this physical, psychological, and spiritual bondage and bringing the freedom of Christ to those in desperate need of hope and eternal life. Many of them took time out of often impossible schedules for interviews and provided the stories on which this book is based. The stories in this book are their stories.

In their latest promotional video, David Grant and Jennifer Barratt share their heart behind From Horror to Hope. Grant says, “We’re on a mission to rescue and restore victims of sexual slavery through the love and power of God.”

In the early days of Project Rescue, leaders asked themselves one critical question that would change the course of their lives forever: “If organized crime can work together for evil purposes of greed, injustice, and exploitation, why can’t good people—God’s people—work together across denominations, organizations, and borders for God’s great purposes of justice, freedom, and healing?” It is this philosophy of piercing through the darkness with light that has transformed and changed the trajectory of thousands of lives.

“No one,” David Grant says, “no sexually exploited woman, man or child has a story so dark or difficult that it cannot be redeemed.”

Project Rescue continues to pray together, share resources together, and fight hell on behalf of God’s violated sons and daughters as they celebrate the hard-won victories of rescue and restoration together. “As important and life-changing as the work in the red-light districts of the world has been, perhaps training the trainers is one of the most strategic aspects of Project Rescue’s ministry today,” writes Beth Grant.

From Horror to Hope is released by Charisma House, which publishes books that challenge, encourage, teach, and equip Christians.

David and Beth Grant, founders of Project Rescue, have built and served a devoted network of highly skilled colleagues around the world who share a passionate commitment to survivors of sexual exploitation on their journey toward restoration. The Grants firmly believe that no one—no sexually exploited woman or child—has a story so dark, difficult, or troubled that it cannot be redeemed through the love and power of God. This message of hope has marked their twenty-five-year mission to rescue and restore victims of sexual exploitation.

Jonathan and Jennifer Barratt, CEO of Project Rescue Foundation, and executive director of Project Rescue, respectively, are committed to seeing hope restored in the lives of survivors of sexual exploitation. As they pave the way forward, their shared goal is to enable the Project Rescue network to grow exponentially, increase its presence in areas devastated by sexual exploitation, and provide more access to critical, trauma-informed training for local leaders. While the methods and strategies developed will be tailored to each local context, the permeating commitment to Project Rescue’s founding mission and values will never change.
