Amazon commissions custom font from 2K Denmark

April 28, 2025 by Sheri Toomb

For almost 40 years, 2K Denmark has developed functional fonts that reflect the ambitions of Sustainable Typesetting® – greater readability, on fewer pages, while simultaneously reducing both the production cost and the CO2 footprint of book production.

Amazon, the world’s largest book producer, has considered this a good idea, and have commissioned a custom font family to benefit their publishers and self-publishers. The result is Amazon Endure, which was presented on Earth Day on April 22. We are proud that a company like Amazon has chosen 2K as a supplier for this important initiative.

In creating the Amazon Endure typeface, our primary ambition was to combine functionality with aesthetics.

Optimizing Amazon Endure’s functionality led us to prioritize maintaining a high level of readability while saving a significant amount of real estate (book pages).

The letterforms are designed with a narrower width, a larger x-height, and a slanted inner balance to help the reader move forward.

An angular design helps define the letters at small sizes and strengthens letter recognition.

When designing Amazon Endure’s aesthetic, we sought to integrate classic design features with a modern, clean, straightforward look.

Creating a harmony of efficiency, character, and readability became a hallmark of this typeface family. Amazon Endure is carefully kerned to balance the white space around the letterforms, creating harmonious letter combinations while supporting readability.

Tyndale Kids and the Salvation Poem Project announce exciting partnership to engage children with the story of Jesus

April 28, 2025 by Sheri Toomb

New Animated Film and Faith-Filled Books Help Kids Discover the Love of Christ

CAROL STREAM, IL/Sparta, WI (April 14, 2025)—Tyndale Kids and the Salvation Poem Project are thrilled to announce a meaningful new partnership rooted in a shared mission: to lead children to Jesus, share his truth, and help them fall in love with him. This collaboration brings together the creative strengths of two trusted organizations and introduces a collection of new resources designed to nurture kids’ faith—including four products from Tyndale Kids this fall and the upcoming animated feature film, Light of the World, from the Salvation Poem Project. Together, these offerings invite families to experience the life-changing story of Jesus in a fresh and accessible way—through both page and screen.

“Partnering with the Salvation Poem Project has been a joy,” said Linda Howard, associate publisher of Tyndale Kids. “Together, we are offering families a full experience—one that captures the beauty of Jesus’ story and invites kids to live a life for him.”

Releasing in theaters nationwide on September 5, 2025, Light of the World is a visually stunning 2D-animated film that tells the story of Jesus through the eyes of the apostle John. With artistic direction from seasoned Disney veterans—including directors John J. Schafer (Superbook) and Tom Bancroft (The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast), and animation director Tony Bancroft (Mulan, Mary Poppins Returns)—the film blends classic animation with heartfelt storytelling to capture the life, miracles, and resurrection of Jesus.

“It was vital that we partnered with a publisher who understood our ministry goals. Luckily, Tyndale is a ministry! It’s been an honor to labor together to share the gospel through these publishing products,” said Brennan McPherson, president of the Salvation Poem Project. “We believe that these books will not only extend people’s experience with our film, Light of the World, but will also give them real additional spiritual value.”

To support the film’s release, Tyndale Kids is publishing two books and two activity books this fall that extend the story beyond the screen and into homes, churches, and classrooms. Each resource is created to help kids connect with the heart of Jesus, understand his love, and build a faith that lasts:

  • Light of the World: Josiah’s Story—A beautifully illustrated picture book that introduces Jesus through the eyes of a young boy named Josiah
  • Light of the World Family Devotional—A 90-day devotional journey filled with Scripture, questions, and activities to bring families closer to God
  • Light of the World: Friends of Jesus Coloring and Activity Book—A fun, interactive companion for kids to explore moments from the film
  • Light of the World: Miracles of Jesus Coloring and Activity Book—Highlights Jesus’ miraculous works through playful and meaningful illustrations

This partnership also includes a free, downloadable kids’ ministry curriculum designed by pastors and children’s ministry leaders, inspired by Light of the World. It’s an ideal resource for churches and ministries eager to bring the gospel to life for the next generation.

With Tyndale’s longstanding legacy of publishing biblically sound and life-giving resources and millions already impacted by the Salvation Poem Project around the globe, this collaboration marks a powerful new chapter in faith-based family media.

New VOM book collection invites readers to rediscover inspiring testimonies of Richard and Sabina Wurmbrand

April 28, 2025 by Sheri Toomb

BARTLESVILLE, Okla. (May 1, 2025) — A powerful new three-volume collection from VOM Books, The Wurmbrand Essentials, brings together the unforgettable testimonies of Richard and Sabina Wurmbrand, two courageous believers who paid a price for following Christ.

In The Wurmbrand Essentials, readers will walk with the Wurmbrands through their engaging true stories of faith forged by intense persecution. These three books recount their dramatic conversions from atheism, their unwavering Christian witness under Communist oppression and their ultimate calling to launch a global ministry that still serves persecuted Christians today in more than 70 nations.

Richard Wurmbrand was abducted by Romanian secret police on Feb. 29, 1948, for boldly preaching the gospel. Isolated in prison, tortured and separated from his family for over a decade, Richard discovered a profound joy in the presence of Christ during three years of solitary confinement. His story is recounted in two of his best-known works.

Tortured for Christ, first published in 1967, is known as “the book that shocked the world.” In this sobering and unforgettable account, which has sold over 10 million copies in 60 languages, Richard Wurmbrand shares about his years in Communist prisons for refusing to renounce his faith.

In God’s Underground (1968) is Richard Wurmbrand’s testimony of triumphant faith amid deep anguish. Sentenced to “life” in prison, he was able to rejoice in his Lord amid the most horrific conditions and find “a deep and extraordinary ecstasy of happiness that is like nothing in this world.”

Sabina Wurmbrand, while her husband’s whereabouts and condition were still unknown, was soon arrested because of her own faith and Christian witness. In The Pastor’s Wife, Sabina tells the story of how she and Richard, both atheistic Jews, came to faith in Christ and served as his powerful witnesses while imprisoned by Communist Romanian authorities.

Together, The Wurmbrand Essentials — including Tortured for Christ, In God’s Underground and The Pastor’s Wife — will both challenge and encourage readers to live with courage, compassion and a greater commitment to Christ.

April 14, 2025 by Sheri Toomb

We are delighted to announce that the Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge (SPCK) has been shortlisted for both Specialist Consumer Publisher of the Year and the Virtusales Metadata Award at the Independent Publishing Awards 2025. The winners will be announced at a Gala Lunch at OXO Tower in London on the 30th April, hosted by broadcasters Bridgid Nzekwu and Andrew Verity.

SPCK is the UK’s third-oldest publishing house, and has been active since 1698. Under CEO Sam Richardson, the company merged with Inter-Varsity Press (IVP) in 2015, and acquired Lion Hudson in 2021, becoming the largest Christian publisher in the country.

Independent Publishing Awards of SPCK’s nomination for Specialist Consumer Publisher of the Year:

‘SPCK is a three-time winner of this Award, and is shortlisted again having revived its fortunes after a challenging few years in its field of Christian publishing. It had its highest ever sales and market share – the result of publishing fewer books better and finding new global markets… Judges said: “SPCK [is] always striving to do more and be THE voice in its field.”’

The Independent Publishing Awards also said of SPCK’s nomination for the Virtusales Metadata Award:

‘SPCK has substantially improved the breadth and accuracy of its data lately, and it focused its strategies in two areas in 2024: its own metadata in the US, and the inbound feeds of partner publishers into the UK. Judges said: “SPCK shows a real commitment to metadata excellence. It understands its value and is focusing improvements in the correct areas.”’

Sam Richardson, CEO of SPCK, said:

“We are thrilled to have been nominated for both Specialist Consumer Publisher of the Year – an award which SPCK has won three times previously – and the Virtusales Metadata award. Both these decisions are testament to superb new strategies that we have put in place regarding our publishing, which saw us deliver a 20% increase in sales in 2024, and we are delighted to see these achievements reflected in these Independent Publishing Awards 2025 nominations.”

Patrycja Moroszczuk, Marketing Development Manager at SPCK, said:

“We are incredibly proud of the progress SPCK has made. These nominations are a clear indication to the hard work and dedication of our team, and we’re excited to continue building on this momentum. In 2024, we achieved the Silver BIC Metadata Excellence Award recognizing the completeness and timeliness of all our products. At the same time, our new partnership with Ingram US is helping us enhance our metadata management for both front and backlist titles on an internation scale.”
