New series by New Growth Press helps young adults apply theology to the real world

June 30, 2025 by Sheri Toomb

The Real-World Theology Series Launches August 25, 2025

These two books are part of a new series published in partnership with Spurgeon College. Each book helps youth and young adults understand how the Bible speaks to the practical details of life

Mike McGarry helps readers discover that being created in the image of God means your identity, worth, and purpose aren’t dependent on a list of accomplishments—they are given by the One who made you. At the core, what makes you “You”? Is it the way you look? Your family? Your accomplishments? The more you try to look within, the more confusing it can become. The good news is, your identity is a gift from God, not something you have to discover within yourself. For those who follow Christ, their identity is always secure in him. God created us to be his image-bearers, as icons who remind the world of his majesty and nature. When we discover our purpose in his big story, it helps us make sense of our individual stories. In Iconic, you will see how being and bearing God’s image helps you discover your own identity as a loved child of God and shapes your relationship with him, others, and yourself.

  • Learn how to live as God’s image bearer at school, work, and in everyday relationships.
  • See how your identity as an image-bearer gives deep meaning to everything you do.

Most of us have, and for good reason. The world we live in is not our true home. Just like our fellow travelers throughout the Bible, we are wandering, trying to find our way home. Once we find Jesus and let him be our guide, we can find the proper path for our long journey home.  Learning to live as a pilgrim in this world will help you to make sense of what’s hard and teach you to depend on Jesus when you are feeling displaced and alone. Through Nomad, you will discover how your individual story has fit into God’s big story all along.

  • Learn to liveas a pilgrim, depending on Jesus through all of life’s ups and downs.

WaterBrook signs Luke Lefevre in two-book deal

June 30, 2025 by Sheri Toomb

JUNE 27, 2025 — Luke Lefevre, named by Outreach Magazine as one of the top 20 Christian leaders today, brings his passion to see revival in the church to WaterBrook in a two-book deal starting with Dethrone Fear: Finding the Courage to Not Waste Your Life.

As the Director of Ministry Engagement & Gen Z at Gather25 and a regular speaker at some of the largest and most influential churches and conferences in the world, LeFevre sheds light on the spiritual warfare raging around us, particularly the lies about the cost of boldly living out our faith and sharing the gospel. Rather than a rally cry to “be brave” or “try harder,” this book offers practical tools to understand the root of our fear, how to overcome it, and practical steps to fulfill the calling we were created for. As revival continues to sweep across America, this book promises to be a handbook of clarity and courage in what many are calling the next Great Awakening.

Book One is scheduled for publication in Spring 2027. World rights were acquired at auction by Will Anderson, Senior Editor at Waterbrook, from Karen Yates and Curtis Yates at Yates & Yates.

Tyndale’s “Silent Horizons” tops ECPA’s Fiction Bestsellers chart at #1

June 23, 2025 by Sheri Toomb

Novel Climbs to #47 on USA Today’s Best-selling Booklist

Carol Stream, IL (June 23, 2025) – Silent Horizons, the first book in a new high-stake thriller series from former Force Recon Marine Chad Robichaux along with Navy TOPGUN fighter pilot Jack Stewart, has garnered the #1 spot on the Evangelical Christian Publishers Association (ECPA) fiction bestsellers chart and is making a steady climb on USA Today’s Best-selling Booklist at #47.

Silent Horizons (Tyndale, May 2025) gives readers a pulse-pounding glimpse into the clandestine side of special operations. The novel, centered on the fictional character of Foster Quinn, is filled with action, international intrigue, and interwoven with themes of military, brotherhood, bravery, and loyalty.

“It is a great encouragement to see SILENT HORIZONS gain readership in the Christian fiction space. Our hope has always been to attract a new audience of male readers who are looking for great fiction with a Christian worldview,” said Karen Watson, publisher. “Tyndale is pleased with this series launch that recognizes the sacrifices and challenges for men and women in our military and first responder communities. They deserve to be seen and represented in our storytelling. Congratulations, Chad and Jack, on this successful launch!”

With eight deployments to Afghanistan, Robichaux has become a go-to resource and regularly contributes to a wide range of national media outlets including Fox News, along with hosting his own podcast, The Resilient Show. After nearly becoming a veteran suicide statistic before overcoming his personal battles with PTSD, Chad founded Mighty Oaks, a leading nonprofit serving the military and first responder communities with highly successful faith-based resiliency and recovery programs.

Stewart, who served twenty-three years as an FA-18C Hornet fighter pilot and flew combat missions from three different aircraft carriers over Iraq and Afghanistan, is recognized as an expert in close air support. A former law enforcement officer, he is now a captain with a major US airline and has appeared on international cable news as a military and commerical aviation expert. New Growth Press announces two new releases to the Gospel-Centered Life in the Bible series

June 23, 2025 by Sheri Toomb

To Release August 18, 2025

Two new releases to the Gospel-Centered Life in the Bible series published in partnership with Serge. Each book in the series examines how the gospel story is revealed throughout both the Old and New Testaments.

Daniel: Standing Firm in Adversity by Paul S. Kim challenges participants to live by faith, even when it causes suffering. Readers will see that Daniel’s bravery in the face of opposition and threats came from his absolute trust in his God, who brought him to Babylon to be a blessing to others.

  • Features ten lessons from the book of Daniel, including leader’s notes.
  • Easy-to-use small group resource includes discussion questions, a short article, and a practical application section that can be used for one-to-one discipleship, small group, or large group settings.

Paul S. Kim’s study of Daniel guides Christians in how to live with courage and conviction in a world that is not their home. How do you live as a Christian in a world that doesn’t follow Jesus? The Bible speaks of the Christian life as living in exile. In exile, you feel like you’re not at home, and there’s a sense of pressure to conform to outward pressures. Some people get lost in fear, and others just try to blend in. But the book of Daniel calls us to live out our faith without compromise while still reaching out in love to those around us.

Lamentations: How God Lifts the Burden of Sin and Sorrow by Jonathan Gibson helps participants learn to lament and hear God’s heart for them. In a busy world where grief is often ignored, this study invites us into the house of mourning and helps us gain a heart of wisdom for when hard times come.

  • Features six lessons from the book of Lamentations, including leader’s notes.
  • Easy-to-use small group resource includes discussion questions, a short article, and a practical application section that can be used for one-to-one discipleship, small group, or large group settings.

In his Bible Study of Lamentations, Jonathan Gibson helps participants recover the lost, biblical art of lament and points us to Christ, who bears all our burdens. What do we do when life goes very wrong? The biblical answer is that we start by turning to God and sharing our distress and pain with him. But when was the last time you lamented to God? In our culture, we are averse to engaging with sin and death, suffering and sorrow, so we really don’t understand how to apply the book of Lamentations to our lives.

About the Authors:

Paul S. Kim, MDiv, DMin, is the Senior Pastor of Redeemer Presbyterian Church in San Diego, a multiethnic and intergenerational church that started as a church plant, merged with another church, and now actively engages in church planting and discipleship movements around the world. He is the author of Daniel: Firm in Adversity. Paul is married to Linda, and they have three children.

Jonathan Gibson, PhD, is ordained in the International Presbyterian Church (UK) and serves as Associate Professor of Old Testament, Westminster Theological Seminary, Philadelphia. He is the author of Isaiah: Good News for the Waywardand Wandering, 2 Peter: Living with the End in Mind, Lamentations: How Christ Lifts the Burden of Sin and Sorrow, The Moon Is Always Round and the Big Truths for Little Minds series. He is married to Jackie, and they have four children.

IVP Kids “Birth of the Chosen One” wins 2025 American Fiction Award

June 23, 2025 by Sheri Toomb

June 2025 | LISLE, IL—InterVarsity Press (IVP) is excited to announce that Birth of the Chosen One won first place in the Children’s Religious category of American Book Fest’s American Fiction Awards. IVP Kids titles Penny Preaches and Not Finished Yet were finalists in the same category.

Winners and finalists for the American Fiction Awards were announced in over seventy genre-specific categories for titles published between 2020 and 2025. Jeffrey Keen, President and CEO of American Book Fest, said, “American Book Fest is proud to announce the final results of our 8th Annual Fiction Award Program! Congratulations to all of the winners and finalists for their much- deserved recognition!”

In addition to the American Fiction Award, Birth of the Chosen One: A First Nations Retelling of the Christmas Story, received the 2025 Illumination Award Gold Medal and the 2024 Moonbeam Award. It was also honored as the Children’s Book Council (CBC) Teacher Favorites, CBC Librarian Favorites, and the Independent Press Awards Distinguished Favorite.

Written by Terry M. Wildman and illustrated by Hannah Noel Buchanan and Holly Buchanan, Birth of the Chosen One is adapted from the Gospel of Luke in IVP’s First Nations Version, an Indigenous translation that recounts the Creator’s Story—the Christian Scriptures—following the tradition of Native storytellers’ oral cultures. This fully illustrated picture book celebrates the sacred event of Christ’s birth with the vibrant voice of Indigenous oral storytelling.

“This artful retelling captures the wonder of the birth that changed human history,” said L. Daniel Hawk, professor of Old Testament and Hebrew at Ashland Theological Seminary. “We commonly read the nativity story with mental pictures shaped by Western culture and traditions. What a joy, then, to read the story afresh through First Nations eyes! Through the gentle cadence of Terry Wildman’s storytelling and the soft pastels of Hannah and Holly Buchanan’s illustrations, we discover new and beautiful treasures in the story of the Chosen One’s birth.”

Penny Preaches: God Gives Good Gifts to Everyone!, one of the American Fiction finalists, tells the story of a young girl who wants to be a preacher. But when preaching from the front porch to her friends doesn’t turn out quite as she expected, Penny wonders if she was wrong to want to teach others about God.

With illustrations by Jennifer Davison and written by Amy and Rob Dixon, Penny’s story celebrates the gifts God has given to all his children. The Dixons said, “Our hope for every child is that they would be able to discern, embrace, and cultivate whatever gifts God has given them, even if those gifts push the boundaries of how the church has historically understood gifting for women and men.”

Penny Preaches also won a 2025 Independent Press Award and a 2025 Illumination Award Gold Medal.

Also a recipient of a 2025 Independent Press Award, Not Finished Yet: Trusting God with All My Feelings, written by Sharon Garlough Brown and illustrated by Jessica Linn Evans, offers an opportunity for caregivers to talk about their faith together with children and teaches them that God welcomes honest, heartfelt prayers.

Wren’s journey begins in Gran’s art studio—a place filled with love, creativity, and encouragement. Through painting, Wren learns to express her feelings and discover God’s presence in every part of life. Together, Wren and Gran share a practice they call “painting prayers,” guiding young readers to see art as a way to explore their emotions and communicate with God.

“This book is for children, yes, but it’s also for the child in all of us,” said Sarah Arthur, author of Once a Queen and A Light So Lovely. “When our emotions get too big for our bodies, we can trust Sharon Garlough Brown. She’s the wise voice of Wren’s grandmother, gently reminding us that we’re a work in progress. Nothing—not even our biggest, scariest feelings—can separate us from the love of God.”

In keeping with IVP’s historic mission, IVP Kids offers resources that reflect and celebrate diverse voices, equipping and encouraging children to follow Jesus in every area of their lives.

IVP Editor Elissa Schauer said, “Our hope is that children and families would enjoy reading together, and that the content of these books would spark meaningful conversations for years to come.”

New Growth Press releases new curriculum to help children face dangerous situations

June 16, 2025 by Sheri Toomb

Teach Children the Safety Skills Needed for Living in an Unsafe World

New curriculum for Christian schools and homeschool families help children develop wisdom and discernment for potentially dangerous situations

Sadly, we live in a world where child abuse can happen in any community, even a faith-based one. That’s why it is vitally important to teach children the safety skills that will help protect themselves from mistreatment, unsafe situations, violence, bullying, cyber-crimes, predatory behavior, abuse, and other kinds of danger that they might encounter. A new curriculum designed for Christian schools teaches children how to confidently assess and respond to potentially unsafe situations and people.

The Safeguards School Curriculum: Equipping Kids with Safety Skills is a six-unit curriculum that teaches elementary grades abuse awareness and prevention from a biblical worldview, based on the principles in the book Safeguards, by family counselor Julie Lowe. Written by Lowe, and educators Lynne Little, and Angela Ruiz (all with extensive experience in counseling, education, and curriculum formation), the curriculum emphasizes scriptural truth as the foundation for developing the wisdom and discernment needed by children to be safe.It is the first school-based curriculum that combines child safety training with a biblical worldview, offering an understanding of both the dangers children face and God’s power to overcome.

“While many abuse prevention programs exist, most are rooted in secular, humanistic ideologies that often conflict with biblical values on topics such as identity, sexuality, and authority. This curriculum was developed to address the need for biblically grounded abuse prevention training that empowers children without compromising theological integrity or sacrificing childhood innocence,” Little explains. “In today’s world, Christian schools face a moral and spiritual responsibility to protect the children in their care. Abuse prevention is not just a legal requirement—it is a gospel-driven calling.”

The school curriculum is divided into two age levels (K–grade 2 and grades 3–5) and employs stories, puppets, role plays, crafts, and a variety of hands-on activities to teach about wisdom and discernment. Topics addressed include learning to say no, respect and privacy, being lost, and bullying. Each lesson includes a take-home paper to educate and equip parents to continue the conversations started at school.

“This curriculum should be used in Christian schools to support the family in their task to raise God-fearing, wise, discerning young people,” Lowe shares. “The first line of defense is the home, and the second is the Christian community we place our young people in. The more we can equip both parents and kids to know God and His ways, the more discerning and safer they will be.”

In addition to the school version of the curriculum, Safeguards Homeschool Curriculum is available for homeschooling families. This edition is designed for ages 7 through 11 (grades 2 through 5) and includes three units from the Safeguards School Curriculum—Discernment (Unit 1), Evaluation and Wisdom (Unit 2), and the Courage to Say No (Unit 3).

Developed in partnership with the Evangelical Council for Abuse Prevention (ECAP) which provides awareness, accreditation, and resources to Christian organizations who are serving children, the Safeguards curriculum helps to protect children and equip them to live wisely and securely in God’s world. Every lesson is built on Scripture, helping children develop godly wisdom and reminding them of the presence and power of God in every circumstance.

The Safeguards School Curriculum and Safeguards Homeschool Curriculum are available in downloadable and USB formats at newgrowthpress.com.

While there will be no faith element in these titles, all Haven publications will reflect the same trusted values and content standards readers have come to expect from Bethany House and Revell. With Haven, Baker Publishing Group’s goal is to broaden their reach to readers who value uplifting, feel-good fiction across multiple genres.

Haven’s inaugural release will be Even After This (February 2026; ISBN 9780800746940; Ebook ISBN 9781493451418; $18.99) by Deborah Clack, the first book in the Shelter & Sky series. This poignant contemporary romance weaves together the lives of a celebrity and a widow, both seeking fresh starts but unable to move forward until they confront their pasts. The novel explores themes of second chances, healing, and discovering love when least expected.

Deborah Clack is a trade debut novelist, native Texan, and former high school teacher with a master’s degree in education. She believes in the transformative power of fiction and dedicates her time to crafting stories filled with endearing characters and hard-fought romance. Readers can learn more at DeborahClack.com.

Following in April, Haven will release Chelsea Bobulski’s historical romance novel, A Deal with a Debutante (April 2026; ISBN 9780764245251; $18.99), the first installment in the London’s Most Eligible series. Set against the backdrop of Edwardian-era England, this captivating enemies-to-lovers story combines period authenticity with witty dialogue and charming romance.

Chelsea Bobulski is the acclaimed author of two YA contemporary fantasy novels and the four-book All I Want for Christmas series. With a degree in history from Ohio State University, Chelsea expertly weaves historical details into her engaging narratives. Discover more of her work at ChelseaBobulski.com.

In addition to Clack and Bobulski, Haven has signed Jennie Goutet (A Love Once Lost, historical romance, June 2026), Andra Loy (The Roman Holiday Rule, contemporary romance, August 2026), and Roxanne LoMarc (Love and Other Two-Player Games, contemporary romance, December 2026). Haven is set to release six titles in both 2026 and 2027, laying a strong foundation for this exciting new venture in publishing.

President and CEO of Baker Publishing Group, Jesse Myers, stated, “The launch of Haven represents an exciting new chapter in Baker’s publishing journey. We are fully committed to serving Christian readers as we always have, but we have recognized a significant opportunity to reach readers who are searching for uplifting, wholesome fiction without faith content. Haven will fill this growing market need while maintaining the high-quality storytelling and positive values that have characterized our fiction for decades.”

With an emphasis on clean & wholesome fiction, Haven provides readers with stories they can come home to—books that offer warmth, connection, and a welcoming escape from everyday life. Sign up for the newsletter at HavenFiction.com and follow Haven on Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok @HavenFiction.
