Parenting Experts Launch New Book with National Media and Nine-City Book Tour This Week
Nashville, TN (April 20, 2026) – Expert therapists and bestselling authors Sissy Goff and David Thomas combat the childhood crisis of capability on the national stage as they launch their latest release, Capable: How to Teach Your Kids Strength, Skills, and Strategies to Build Resilience (Baker Publishing, April 21). On Wednesday, April 22, the pair will be featured live on The TODAY Show (airs 9:40 am ET), and NBC News Now (1:45 pm and 3:45 pm ET). In this book launch season, they will also be featured on The Parenting Chat with Dylan Dreyer, Couple Things with Shawn Johnson and Andrew East, That Sounds Fun with Annie F. Downs, Christianity Today, 1000 Hours Outside, Dadville, Don’t Mom Alone and many, many more.
In these interviews, Sissy and David will speak on modern parenting’s biggest issues, such as:
- What does it actually mean for a child to be capable?
- What are the common pitfalls for capability–for kids and parents?
- What role do parents have in developing confidence and competence for their children?
- Is AI helping or hindering parents’ and kids’ belief that they have what it takes?
Drawing from more than fifty years of combined counseling experience at Daystar Counseling Ministries in Nashville, Sissy and David provide parents with practical tools to cultivate capability in children—an internal confidence that empowers them to face adversity with resilience. Together they advocate that raising capable kids isn’t about shielding them from struggle but preparing them to meet it with courage. They teach parents how to help their children believe, deep down, “I can do this”—whether that means overcoming frustration and disappointment, managing conflict with peers, or standing firm in who they are and who God made them to be.
In addition to their national media appearances, David and Sissy kick off a nine-city tour this week to connect face-to-face with families in the trenches of parenting. They will speak to parents about how sturdy is better than success, healthy is more important than happy, and resilience lasts longer than relief or rescue.
