Last week, ECPA announced the winners of The Christy Award® in nine fiction categories, plus the Book of the Year and the program’s debut Amplify Award. Returning to Nashville, for an in-person dinner gala, the evening also honored award-winning novelist Becky Wade, who was inducted into the Christy Hall of Fame; and featured the literary contributions of bestselling author Jan Karon through a virtual interview.
ECPA presents 38 Top Shelf Book Cover Awards; Honors program’s 10th anniversary
ECPA announced 38 winners of the 2022 Top Shelf Book Cover Award during the ECPA PubU opening session. In recognition of the program’s 10-year anniversary, Faceout Studio principal and program consultant Torrey Sharp shared a video reflecting on 10 years of design excellence in Christian publishing. More than 200 covers have now won the distinction.

HCCP promotes Beth Murphy to VP of marketing
HarperCollins Christian Publishing has announced the promotion of Beth Murphy to VP of marketing for ChurchSource and Harper Christian Resources. Murphy joined the company 19 years ago and, throughout her tenure, she has been on a path of excellence in her career. As VP, Murphy will continue to be responsible for leading and growing the ChurchSource business, marketing strategy for Harper Christian Resources and helping deliver revenue growth through the Direct division.

Baker Publishing Group authors win seven Christy Awards, including Book of the Year and the Amplify Award
On November 17 in Nashville, ECPA announced the 2022 Christy Award winners. Six Baker Publishing Group authors were recipients of this prestigious award, including Amanda Cox, whose novel "The Secret Keepers of Old Depot Grocery" (Revell) won both the General Fiction award and the 2022 Christy Book of the Year award. This is the first time in the Christy Award’s history that an author has won consecutive Book of the Year awards. Cox’s debut novel, "The Edge of Belonging," won the First Novel award and the Book of the Year award in 2021.

“It was forty years ago this week,” says Byron Borger co-owner with his wife Beth, of Hearts & Minds, a bookstore in Dallastown, PA, “when we opened our doors and the very first book we sold was ‘Les Miserable’ by Victor Hugo.” That was before the musical, and Borger took it as a sign that their desire to sell thoughtful titles, especially intelligent faith-based books, was going to go well. They had stocked up with a full line of standard titles as well as what they considered to be the best of religious trade publishing, from the likes of Eerdmans, InterVarsity Press, Fortress, and Westminster Press.

Salem author Mike Kinney on Jesus Calling Podcast
Mike Kinney recently joined The Jesus Calling Podcast to share how he was miraculously rescued from a tragic car accident, which led him to consider, Who am I and where do I go from here? After healing from the accident, Mike came to realize that God was organizing the details for him to lead others to see what God has for them, and help them find their own “aha!” moments in life. Kinney’s book, “Out of the Fire,” is available from Salem Books.
